Dear Donor,
Rapid response depends on communities recognizing potential health threats and communicating them promptly.
The current DRC outbreak has produced thousands of confirmed infections and deaths, while health authorities continue strengthening surveillance and contact tracing.
ECDC's deployment of additional epidemiologists on 21 September is intended to reinforce surveillance and the overall response at the epicenter.
Development Alert continues contributing at the community level by promoting awareness about early reporting and appropriate healthcare seeking.
Our work encourages families not to conceal serious illness because of fear or stigma.
We also emphasize that community volunteers should not attempt to diagnose or treat suspected Ebola cases themselves.
Instead, suspected cases should be referred through established health channels.
Strong community awareness can shorten the time between recognizing a health concern and connecting a person with professional assessment.
Fast information can support fast action—and fast action can save lives.
