Dear Donor,
The geography of the DRC Ebola outbreak continues to evolve.
WHO reported that the outbreak had reached 62 health zones across seven provinces by 13 September, with Sud-Ubangi becoming the seventh affected province.
The latest ECDC surveillance data likewise document infections across seven provinces, with Ituri remaining the most heavily affected and North Kivu continuing to experience substantial transmission.
This changing geography reinforces the importance of preparedness beyond the original epicenter.
Development Alert continues engaging communities with information about early reporting, hygiene, healthcare seeking and cooperation with health authorities.
We also emphasize the importance of avoiding stigma toward people who travel from affected areas.
Cross-border preparedness must combine vigilance with respect for people's dignity and livelihoods.
WHO has specifically identified movement through informal crossing routes as a continuing challenge for preventing cross-border transmission.
Preparedness must move with communities, transport networks and changing transmission patterns.
