Dear Donor,
Uganda has successfully ended its 2026 Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak, completing 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case after the last patient was discharged. WHO and Africa CDC confirmed the end of the outbreak on 27 August.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases during the outbreak.
However, the continuing epidemic in the DRC means that preparedness remains important, particularly for communities connected through travel, trade and family networks.
Development Alert continues promoting health awareness, hygiene, early reporting and communication with appropriate health authorities.
We believe Uganda's experience provides valuable lessons about the importance of rapid detection, community cooperation and sustained public-health action.
The continuing DRC outbreak also reminds us that preparedness cannot stop immediately when an outbreak is declared over.
Protecting Uganda's Ebola-free status requires continued vigilance, reliable information and strong community preparedness.
