Dear Donor,
Healthcare facilities remain critical to the Ebola response, but they must also remain safe environments for patients and health workers.
WHO continues documenting intensive infection-prevention and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene efforts in affected facilities in Ituri. These include disinfection, hand hygiene and strengthening practices that protect healthcare workers and patients.
Development Alert continues promoting community understanding of infection prevention.
We encourage people to follow health-facility guidance, communicate openly with healthcare workers and avoid attempting to care for suspected Ebola patients without appropriate protection and professional guidance.
The latest official ECDC data show that 905 patients were hospitalized in isolation as of 16 September.
These numbers illustrate the importance of maintaining safe healthcare environments.
Our community-level work complements the technical efforts of health authorities by promoting hygiene, appropriate healthcare seeking and cooperation with infection-prevention measures.
A healthcare facility should be a place of healing, protection and trust—not a place where transmission is amplified.
