Dear Donor,
The Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of Congo has entered another important phase. On 21 September 2026, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control announced that it was deploying two epidemiologists to the DRC to reinforce surveillance and the overall outbreak response.
This additional technical support comes as the outbreak continues to place enormous pressure on communities and health systems.
The latest formally published ECDC surveillance figures recorded 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths through 16 September, with 1,798 people recovered and 87.6% of identified contacts under follow-up.
Development Alert continues strengthening the community side of preparedness.
Our activities focus on health education, early reporting, hygiene promotion, risk communication, contact-tracing cooperation and cross-border awareness.
We recognize that technical surveillance teams, laboratories, clinicians and epidemiologists perform specialized functions that communities cannot replace. Our role is to help create the trust and awareness that allow these systems to work effectively.
The deployment of additional epidemiological expertise is another reminder that this outbreak requires sustained international cooperation.
With your continued support, Development Alert can help ensure that vulnerable communities remain informed, connected and prepared while the wider response continues.
