Dear Donor,
Uganda's successful response to the 2026 Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak provides important lessons for continued preparedness.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases and completed the required 42-day monitoring period without detecting a new confirmed case, leading to the formal end of the outbreak.
Development Alert continues encouraging communities to retain the lessons learned during that response.
Preparedness should not disappear simply because an outbreak has ended.
Community surveillance, health education, early reporting, infection prevention and cooperation with health authorities can remain valuable long after case numbers reach zero.
This is particularly important because the DRC continues experiencing substantial transmission.
The continuing regional outbreak reinforces the importance of maintaining preparedness among communities connected to affected areas.
Development Alert is committed to helping communities turn emergency lessons into lasting resilience.
An outbreak may end, but preparedness should continue.
