Africa CDC's latest independent scientific review recommends strengthening community ownership as the Ebola response moves into its next phase. It also emphasizes addressing persistent community deaths, improving contact identification and protecting essential health services.
Development Alert's approach strongly reflects this principle.
We continue working through local leaders, volunteers, schools, transport communities, women, youth and households.
The DRC has reported 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths, but the epidemic remains uneven across affected areas.
Community ownership means people understand why surveillance matters, cooperate with contact tracing, practice appropriate hygiene and communicate health concerns.
The strongest response is one that communities understand, trust and actively participate in.
