Dear Donor,
The Ebola epidemic in the DRC is becoming increasingly complex. Africa CDC reports declining cases in some hotspots while transmission continues to intensify in other health zones, particularly parts of North Kivu.
This changing pattern makes community engagement more important than ever.
Development Alert continues working with community networks to ensure health information remains active even as the geographical pattern of transmission changes.
Our activities focus on risk communication, early reporting, hygiene, stigma reduction and appropriate healthcare seeking.
We also encourage community leaders to maintain communication with health structures rather than assuming that declining cases in one location mean the wider threat has ended.
The DRC has reported 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths, making this the largest Ebola outbreak ever recorded in the country.
Development Alert's community-level approach complements the larger response by helping residents understand their role.
We believe communities are strongest when they have both reliable information and trusted people who can explain it.
Continued donor support enables us to keep those community networks active as the epidemic changes.
