Comprehensive Community-Led Ebola Response

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

The latest Ebola figures remind us why sustained community preparedness remains necessary. As of 16 September 2026, WHO reported 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths in the DRC, while 1,798 people had recovered.

Development Alert continues supporting a comprehensive community-led preparedness approach.

Our work goes beyond one intervention. It includes community surveillance, risk communication, early reporting, referral awareness, contact-tracing education, hygiene promotion, WASH awareness, school engagement, transport-community outreach, stigma reduction, support for vulnerable households and coordination with local health structures.

We also support practical logistics that enable community outreach and delivery of preparedness information and materials.

This integrated approach is important because Ebola response is not solved by one activity.

Surveillance identifies concerns. Laboratory testing helps confirm cases. Contact tracing identifies people who may have been exposed. Infection prevention reduces transmission. Clinical care supports patients. Community engagement builds trust. Logistics keep the entire response moving.

WHO confirms that these are among the major pillars currently being implemented in the DRC.

Uganda's successful outbreak response demonstrates the value of coordinated preparedness. The country has remained without a new confirmed case after completing the required monitoring period.

Development Alert is committed to maintaining that spirit of preparedness among communities connected to the DRC.

Your support allows us to keep preparedness close to the people—strengthening knowledge, trust, prevention and community resilience before, during and after an outbreak.
