Dear Donor,
Uganda's successful response to Ebola provides an important opportunity to strengthen long-term preparedness.
The country reported 20 confirmed cases and two deaths during its 2026 outbreak and subsequently completed the required 42-day period without a new confirmed case.
At the same time, the DRC continues experiencing transmission, with 7,475 confirmed cases and 3,605 deaths recorded as of 16 September.
Development Alert continues building on the lessons from Uganda's response.
We are promoting continued community surveillance, health education, hygiene practices, early reporting and communication with health services.
Our goal is to ensure that preparedness does not disappear simply because Uganda has ended its outbreak.
Communities connected to the DRC need continued access to accurate information.
We also encourage schools, markets, transport communities and local leaders to maintain preparedness habits.
The current regional situation demonstrates why this is necessary.
WHO continues coordinating surveillance, laboratory testing, clinical care, infection prevention, community engagement and logistics in the DRC.
Development Alert's role is to help translate these broader preparedness priorities into practical community action.
Uganda's success should become a foundation for stronger preparedness—not a reason to lower our guard.
