Dear Donor,
Although Uganda has successfully interrupted Ebola transmission and has officially been declared Ebola-free, the humanitarian crisis across the border in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to deepen. The ongoing outbreak has now infected more than 3,200 people, making it one of the country's largest Ebola emergencies in recent history. Thousands of families continue living under extraordinary pressure as healthcare workers battle the disease in difficult and often insecure conditions.
Development Alert continues monitoring the evolving situation while strengthening collaboration with border communities that maintain close social and economic ties with eastern DRC. Many families regularly cross the border for farming, trade, education, and healthcare, making continued vigilance essential even after Uganda's successful containment.
Community volunteers remain active by promoting Ebola awareness, strengthening disease surveillance, encouraging early reporting of suspected illness, and supporting local preparedness activities. Schools, places of worship, markets, and transport centers continue reinforcing healthy behaviors such as regular handwashing and prompt referral of suspected cases to health authorities.
Our thoughts remain with healthcare workers, community volunteers, humanitarian organizations, and affected families throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their courage under extremely difficult circumstances continues to inspire the region.
Your support has created a lasting impact in Uganda while helping strengthen preparedness for future emergencies. Continued investment in cross-border preparedness and regional cooperation will remain essential until Ebola transmission is fully interrupted throughout the region.
