By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader
Dear Donor,
Thank you so much for your remarkable support. Ugnda is Eboa Free! The dedication of frontline health workers, community volunteers, government agencies, and development partners who worked tirelessly to contain the outbreak before widespread community transmission could occur. Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases during the outbreak, many linked to imported infections from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
While this declaration is a moment of celebration, it is also a reminder that the fight against Ebola is far from over. Across the border in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the outbreak continues to expand, with more than 3,200 confirmed infections reported. Communities continue facing enormous challenges caused by insecurity, population displacement, difficult terrain, and limited access to healthcare services.
Development Alert remains committed to supporting preparedness activities in Uganda's border districts. Community surveillance, health education, contact tracing readiness, and rapid response planning continue because the risk of imported cases remains real. Volunteers are maintaining public awareness campaigns, supporting Village Health Teams, and reinforcing infection prevention measures in schools, markets, transport hubs, and border communities.
This success belongs to every donor who believed in community-led action. Your generosity helped strengthen surveillance, improve community awareness, support frontline responders, and protect vulnerable families. As Uganda celebrates this achievement, our commitment now shifts toward preventing future outbreaks while standing in solidarity with communities across the Democratic Republic of the Congo that continue facing this public health emergency.
