Building Stronger Partnerships With Border Health

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Health facilities located along the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo border serve as a critical first point of contact for communities seeking medical care. As Uganda continues responding to Ebola, strengthening these frontline facilities remains essential for protecting both patients and healthcare workers. Thanks to your continued support, Development Alert is working alongside local health authorities to reinforce collaboration with border health facilities and surrounding communities.

Community volunteers continue supporting health facilities by encouraging early health-seeking behavior, promoting awareness of Ebola symptoms, and helping direct community members to appropriate healthcare services. Regular coordination between Village Health Teams and clinic staff has improved communication, enabling faster reporting of suspected illnesses and more effective follow-up within surrounding villages.

Health facilities are also participating in community education events, where healthcare workers answer questions, explain infection prevention measures, and encourage cooperation with surveillance activities. These interactions are helping build trust between healthcare providers and the communities they serve, increasing confidence in local health services.

The strengthened partnership is improving preparedness while ensuring that border health facilities remain connected to community surveillance networks and local leadership structures. This coordinated approach is creating a more responsive health system capable of identifying and addressing potential risks quickly.

Your support is reinforcing one of the most important links in the Ebola response. By strengthening partnerships between communities and border health facilities, you are helping ensure that quality healthcare, early detection, and effective prevention remain available to families living in some of the region's highest-risk areas.
