Mobile Outreach Teams Bring Ebola Services Closer

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Many families living along the Uganda–Democratic Republic of Congo border reside far from health facilities, making access to timely health information and preventive services a continuing challenge. Thanks to your generous partnership, Development Alert's mobile outreach teams are ensuring that these remote communities remain fully included in the Ebola response.

Equipped with health education materials and supported by trained community volunteers, outreach teams travel from village to village providing practical demonstrations on handwashing, explaining the early signs of Ebola, encouraging prompt reporting of suspected illness, and answering questions from community members. The teams also work closely with Village Health Teams and local leaders to identify households requiring additional support or follow-up.

These visits have become an important opportunity to build trust. Community members appreciate receiving accurate information directly from trained responders, helping replace fear and misinformation with confidence and practical knowledge. Outreach activities are also strengthening links between remote villages and district health authorities, ensuring that suspected cases can be communicated quickly whenever concerns arise.

The flexibility of mobile outreach allows the response to reach farming communities, fishing villages, informal settlements, and isolated border crossings that might otherwise receive limited attention.

Your generosity is helping ensure that no community is left behind. Every village visited, every household reached, and every question answered strengthens preparedness and helps build healthier, safer communities across the Uganda–DRC border.
