Youth Border Ambassadors Lead the Fight

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear supporter,

Young people are proving to be powerful champions in the fight against Ebola across Uganda's border communities with the Democratic Republic of Congo. As movement across the border continues for education, trade, and family connections, informed and engaged youth are helping ensure that lifesaving health information reaches every corner of their communities. Thanks to your generous support, Development Alert has expanded youth engagement initiatives that are transforming students and young volunteers into trusted Ebola Prevention Ambassadors.

Youth volunteers are organizing school awareness sessions, sports-based health campaigns, community drama performances, and peer education activities that explain Ebola symptoms, infection prevention, and the importance of early reporting. By communicating through music, football tournaments, debates, and cultural events, they are reaching fellow young people in ways that are engaging and memorable.

Beyond schools, youth ambassadors are supporting Village Health Teams during household awareness visits, helping maintain public handwashing stations, and distributing educational materials in markets and transport centers. Their enthusiasm is encouraging families to adopt healthier practices while reducing misinformation that often spreads during public health emergencies.

Community leaders have praised the dedication of these young volunteers, noting that they are inspiring greater community participation and demonstrating that everyone has a role to play in protecting public health.

Your support is investing in a new generation of community leaders. By empowering youth to lead Ebola prevention efforts, you are strengthening community resilience today while preparing future public health champions who will continue protecting their communities long after the outbreak has ended.
