Strengthening Local Leadership for Sustainable Ebola Preparedness
Dear Donor,
Thank you so much for your vontiuned support. Strong local leadership continues to be one of the foundations of Uganda's Ebola response. As the country works to contain 20 confirmed Ebola cases, community leaders are playing an increasingly important role in mobilizing residents, promoting prevention measures, and supporting coordinated response activities. Thanks to your generous support, local leadership capacity continues to grow across affected districts and border communities.
Village chairpersons, religious leaders, cultural leaders, women's representatives, youth leaders, and community elders are participating in regular coordination meetings with district health teams. These meetings provide updates on the outbreak, reinforce prevention strategies, and identify practical solutions to local challenges. Leaders are then able to communicate accurate information directly to the communities they serve, helping build trust and encourage cooperation with public health measures.
Communities are responding positively to this locally led approach. Residents are more willing to participate in surveillance activities, support contact tracing efforts, maintain handwashing facilities, and report suspected illnesses when guidance comes from leaders they know and trust. This partnership is helping reduce fear while strengthening confidence in the overall response.
Beyond the immediate outbreak, these strengthened leadership structures will continue supporting preparedness for future public health emergencies. The relationships established today are creating stronger communication networks and more resilient communities capable of responding quickly to emerging health threats.
Your support is helping empower local leaders to protect their communities today while building lasting systems for tomorrow. Together, we are investing in sustainable leadership, stronger public health partnerships, and healthier communities across Uganda and the Uganda–DRC border region.
