Strengthening Community Radio Campaigns to Reach Every Household
Dear Donor,
As Uganda continues responding to an Ebola outbreak with 20 confirmed cases, timely and accurate information remains one of the strongest tools for protecting communities. Thanks to your generous support, community radio stations across high-risk districts are expanding public health messaging to ensure that even the most remote households receive reliable Ebola prevention information.
Radio remains one of the most trusted and accessible communication channels in rural Uganda. Working closely with district health officials, local leaders, and healthcare professionals, radio stations are broadcasting daily programs that explain Ebola symptoms, prevention measures, the importance of early medical attention, and the role every community member plays in stopping transmission. Interactive talk shows also allow listeners to call in with questions, helping address rumors and misconceptions before they spread.
The impact has been encouraging. Families report greater confidence in recognizing warning signs of illness and understanding where to seek help if symptoms develop. Local leaders are using information shared through radio broadcasts to reinforce awareness during village meetings, religious gatherings, and community events.
These broadcasts are also reaching border communities where frequent movement between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo increases the importance of consistent public health messaging. By ensuring communities on both sides of the border hear similar prevention messages, the response is becoming more coordinated and effective.
Your continued partnership is helping ensure that lifesaving information reaches every household, regardless of location. Together, we are strengthening public awareness, encouraging early action, and empowering communities with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their neighbors throughout the Ebola response.
