Ebola Preparedness at Points of Entry and Border

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Enhancing Ebola Preparedness at Points of Entry and Border Crossings

Dear Friend

Thank you so much for enabling us strengthen preparedness at official and informal border crossing points remains that reamin a critical intervention in fight against Ebola spread. Every day, thousands of traders, transporters, students, and families move between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With your generous support, efforts to protect these communities continue to expand through coordinated border preparedness activities.

Health teams, immigration authorities, local governments, and community volunteers are working together to promote Ebola awareness among travelers. Public information materials are available at points of entry, while trained personnel provide guidance on recognizing Ebola symptoms, reporting illness promptly, and practicing good hand hygiene during travel. Handwashing facilities continue to be maintained at strategic locations, allowing travelers to practice preventive measures before crossing.

Community volunteers also engage people using unofficial crossing routes by working closely with local leaders who understand movement patterns within border communities. This grassroots approach ensures that prevention messages reach populations who might otherwise be missed by traditional health campaigns.

The strengthened collaboration between Ugandan and Congolese border communities is fostering greater confidence in public health interventions while encouraging shared responsibility for disease prevention. These activities are helping reduce the risk of cross-border transmission and strengthening regional preparedness.

Your support is protecting thousands of families who depend on safe cross-border movement for their livelihoods. Together, we are reinforcing one of the most important barriers against Ebola while building stronger systems that will continue protecting communities long into the future.
