Cross-Border Collaboration Protection

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Expanding Cross-Border Collaboration to Protect Vulnerable Communities

Dear donor,

Ebola does not recognize national borders, making regional cooperation essential for protecting communities in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As Uganda continues managing 20 confirmed Ebola cases, cross-border collaboration remains one of the most important components of the response. Your generous support is helping strengthen partnerships that improve preparedness and reduce the risk of cross-border transmission.

Health authorities, community leaders, border officials, and local organizations continue working together to share information, coordinate surveillance activities, and promote consistent prevention messages on both sides of the border. Community awareness campaigns encourage travelers to report symptoms promptly and follow public health guidance while crossing between neighboring communities.

Joint engagement with market associations, transport operators, religious leaders, and village committees is helping ensure that prevention efforts reach populations that move frequently across borders for trade, farming, education, and family visits. These partnerships also strengthen communication when suspected cases require rapid follow-up.

The collaboration being built today is creating stronger regional systems capable of responding more effectively to future public health threats. Communities increasingly recognize that protecting one side of the border also protects the other.

Your continued partnership is strengthening regional solidarity and helping safeguard thousands of families living in border districts. Together, we are building a coordinated response that promotes health security, saves lives, and creates a stronger foundation for preventing future Ebola outbreaks throughout the region.
