Intensifying Community Risk Communication

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear donor,

Thank you for making accurate information sharing about Ebola possible.

As Uganda's Ebola response enters a more intensive phase with 20 confirmed cases, accurate public information remains one of the most powerful tools for protecting lives. Thanks to your continued partnership, community risk communication campaigns are expanding across affected districts and border communities to ensure families receive timely, reliable, and practical health information.

Community health volunteers are conducting household visits, organizing village dialogue meetings, and working with local leaders, teachers, religious leaders, and market associations to reinforce key Ebola prevention messages. Local radio broadcasts, public address systems, and community information sessions are helping reach remote populations with guidance on recognizing symptoms, reporting suspected illness early, practicing regular handwashing, and avoiding behaviors that increase transmission risk.

These communication efforts are also addressing rumors and misinformation that can discourage people from seeking medical care. As trust grows, more community members are engaging openly with health workers, asking questions, and participating in prevention activities.

The campaign is strengthening cooperation between communities and health authorities while encouraging shared responsibility for preventing further spread. Increased awareness is helping families make informed decisions that protect themselves and their neighbors.

Your support is ensuring that lifesaving information reaches those who need it most. Every conversation, community meeting, and awareness session contributes to stronger public confidence, earlier reporting of suspected cases, and a more resilient response capable of slowing the spread of Ebola across Uganda and its border communities.
