Charmaghz is an Afghan education nonprofit based in Kabul. We turn old public buses into mobile libraries. We offer 400 children a space to read, think, and ask questions daily. With the Taliban's takeover, we had to stop our operations. Walking on the streets of Kabul, we realized that children need us now more than ever before. We can't abandon them. We have to create light in the darkest of our time by continuing our work.
In the past, the Afghan-private sector funded Charmaghz mobile libraries primarily. Due to recent events, we lost all our sponsors, and the economic downturn of Afghanistan is making it difficult to find sponsorship. We recently received permission from the Taliban to restart our work and have found safe ways of transferring money to our operations. However, we struggle to pay our staff salary, buy fuel for the mobile libraries and continue our work. Charmaghz has survived the Taliban's takeover
We need your donations to continue our work. This fundraising will ensure financial support for one full year of all six libraries. Each library bus costs $ 11,666 per year, including our admin support. With your donations, we will ensure to have two hundred thousand visits by children from Jan 2022 to Jan 2023. Children in our libraries will have access to books and receive peer-to-peer book reading sessions, artwork, mental health games, and a space to think, wonder, and ask questions!
We envision children growing into adults who choose love and hope over war and guns. In the long term, our work will help them in their journey of growing into adults with critical thinking skills, tolerance, and creativity. Children will be empowered to ask questions and make their life decisions in whatever way life gives meaning to them and contribute to a peaceful society.
