Afghan girls and women face compounding barriers to education and opportunity that, if left unaddressed, threaten to permanently extinguish the potential of half the country's population and entrench a generation of inequality. Charmaghz provides quality online learning pathways that enable Afghan girls to shape their own futures. Building on seven years of running Afghanistan's largest chain of Mobile Libraries for children, we now support 455 girls through four online education programs.
Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls are banned from school after sixth grade. Nearly 80% of school-age Afghan girls, 2.2 million, are excluded, and another 400,000 are forced out each year (UNICEF 2025). Girls have also been shut out of libraries, parks, and most spaces where they could learn alongside peers. Although alternative programs have emerged, they reach only a fraction of those excluded, and millions of girls still urgently need access to quality learning pathway.
In response, Charmaghz offers online programs that give Afghan girls a stable, high-quality way to keep learning. In 2026, we are supporting 455 girls across four programs: Rasta (secondary school), Fara (English), Barna (entrepreneurship training) and Parkhan (online book clubs). This builds on our Mobile Libraries, which reached over one million child visitors in Kabul from 2018 to 2025. Funds raised will help sustain and expand these programs so more girls can continue learning.
We aim to equip Afghan girls with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to continue their education, pursue new opportunities, and become agents of change. From their classrooms to their communities, we envision Afghan girls and women becoming the heartbeat of a rising Afghanistan.
