Afghan girls face unprecedented barriers to education: Afghanistan is the only country where girls are banned from school after 6th grade. Nearly 80%, 2.2 million girls, are excluded, with 1.8 million directly banned by Taliban policy (UNICEF, 2025). Each year, 400,000 more drop out, erasing decades of progress and depriving a generation of opportunity (UNICEF, 2025). While alternative programs exist, millions of girls still urgently need access to quality learning.
The funds raised through this project will support the creation of a new education program to address the critical educational needs of Afghan girls. Charmaghz will establish a safe and innovative online program for girls to learn. Since 2018, we have reached over one million child visitors through our Mobile Libraries, but due to operational challenges, we are ending our in-person programming. This new project will build on our previous work and enable us to provide life-changing opportunities.
Our hope is that this new education program will give girls the knowledge, skills, and mindset they need to become agents of change to create a better future for themselves and their communities.
