GlobalGiving Project Progress Report
Safe Boarding for Children's Education and Growth
Reporting Period: Six-month progress report (January–June 2026)
Project Goal: To create safe boarding facilities for vulnerable children, especially girls, so they can access education in a secure, supportive, and child-friendly setting.
Executive Summary
Every child deserves a chance to learn in a safe and nurturing environment. Unfortunately, for many vulnerable children in the Katasi Community particularly girls the path to school is fraught with dangers that jeopardize their education, safety, dignity, and future.
Long distances, unsafe routes, poverty, and a lack of secure boarding options leave many children at risk of missing school, facing gender-based violence, sexual abuse, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, child labor, and ultimately dropping out.
In response to these pressing issues, Mafabi Apostolic Ministries International (MAMI) initiated the Safe Boarding for Children's Education and Growth Project through the GlobalGiving platform. This project aims to set up safe boarding facilities where vulnerable children can live, learn, and flourish while pursuing quality education. This report outlines the progress made in the first six months of the project, showcasing our achievements, the challenges we've encountered, the lessons we've learned, and the critical need for ongoing support.
Background
Education should open doors to opportunities, not be a perilous journey. Many children attending our partner schools face long daily commutes through isolated and unsafe areas. Girls, in particular, are at a heightened risk of sexual exploitation, gender-based violence, early marriage, and teenage pregnancy simply because they have to travel such great distances to get an education. For numerous families living in poverty, securing safe accommodation near schools is simply beyond their means.
Without intervention, these challenges keep hindering children's educational success and their future opportunities. Acknowledging this pressing issue, MAMI has crafted a project aimed at creating safe boarding facilities that not only protect vulnerable children but also boost school attendance, academic performance, and overall wellbeing.
Project Goal
The goal of this project is to set up secure boarding facilities that will:
• Enhance school attendance and retention.
• Safeguard vulnerable girls from abuse and exploitation.
• Decrease school dropout rates.
• Prevent early marriage and teenage pregnancies.
• Elevate academic performance.
• Offer a safe, supportive, and child-friendly learning environment.
• Foster children's holistic growth and development.
In the end, the project aspires to ensure that vulnerable children stay safe, remain in school, and reach their full potential.
Fundraising Progress
The project kicked off on GlobalGiving with a fundraising goal of USD 16,663.
Current Status
• Project Target: USD 16,663
• Funds Raised: USD 101
• Funding Gap: USD 16,562
• Fundraising Progress: About 0.6%
We express our heartfelt gratitude to every donor, friend, family member, and supporter who has contributed to this project. While the amount raised is just a small piece of the overall financial need, every single contribution plays a vital role in protecting vulnerable children and reflects the kindness of those who believe that every child deserves a safe education.
Project implementation
The initial plan was to create secure boarding facilities for vulnerable children. However, due to the limited resources rraised and available during this reporting period, we couldn't start construction or set up the intended boarding infrastructure. Instead of letting the funds sit idle, MAMI chose to take an adaptive approach to address the most urgent protection needs facing vulnerable girls.
The USD 101 that raised has been redirected to ensure safe transportation for a number of vulnerable girls who live quite a distance from their school during Term One of 2026. This temporary measure allowed these girls to travel safely between home and school, significantly reducing their exposure to dangerous travel routes. While transportation support wasn’t part of the original project plan, this strategic shift made sure that the resources we had at hand provided immediate safety benefits as we continue our longer-term fundraising efforts.
Impact achieved
Even with limited funding, this intervention has led to some meaningful outcomes. The transportation support:
• Helped vulnerable girls travel more safely.
• Decreased their exposure to unsafe routes.
• Boosted school attendance.
• Increased parents' confidence in their children's safety.
• Lowered the immediate risk of school absenteeism due to unsafe travel.
Most importantly, several girls were able to keep attending school safely throughout the term, their smiles, newfound confidence, and ongoing participation in education serve as a powerful reminder that even small acts of support can create a significant impact in a child's life.
Challenges
The main challenge we face is still inadequate funding. With only USD 101 raised against our project goal of USD 16,663, we haven’t yet reached our core objective of establishing safe boarding facilities. Many vulnerable children continue to endure:
• Long and unsafe journeys to school.
• Risks of sexual abuse and exploitation.
• Early marriage.
• Teenage pregnancy.
• School absenteeism.
• Poor academic performance.
• An increased risk of dropping out of school.
Without safe accommodation, many children remain at risk simply because they are trying to pursue an education.
Why this project matters
A safe place to stay is so much more than just a building. It’s a sanctuary where children can:
• Learn without fear.
• Sleep soundly.
• Study in a nurturing environment.
• Build their confidence.
• Develop essential life skills.
• Focus on achieving their dreams.
For vulnerable girls, having access to safe boarding can truly change the game it can mean the difference between finishing school and dropping out. It can open doors to careers as teachers, nurses, or leaders, rather than falling into the cycle of preventable poverty and exploitation. When we invest in safe boarding, we are not just investing in education; we’re also championing child protection, gender equality, and the future of entire communities.
Call to action
Today, we warmly invite the GlobalGiving community, along with foundations, development partners, corporate organizations, faith groups, philanthropic institutions, friends, and kind-hearted individuals from around the globe, to join us in completing this crucial project. We urgently need an additional USD 16,562 to set up safe boarding facilities for these vulnerable children.
Your support will help provide:
• Safe boarding accommodation.
• Secure sleeping facilities.
• Child-friendly sanitation facilities.
• Safe study spaces.
• Essential bedding and furniture.
• Child protection services.
• Improved educational opportunities.
• Hope and security for vulnerable children.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to ensuring that another child can learn in a safe and nurturing environment.
Looking ahead
As we step into the second half of the implementation period (July–December 2026), MAMI remains wholeheartedly dedicated to realizing the vision of this project. We will keep mobilizing resources, engaging partners, and advocating for vulnerable children until safe boarding is a reality.
With the support of GlobalGiving, we believe we can create a world where every child can learn without fear and every girl is shielded from preventable risks.
Conclusion
The first six months of this initiative have reinforced a vital truth: children can’t learn effectively if they don’t feel safe. While we’ve only raised USD 101 so far, those funds have already made a difference by helping vulnerable girls travel safely to and from school during Term One 2026, proving that even small contributions can provide immediate protection and hope.
We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to every donor whose kindness has already made a real impact. However, there’s still so much more to accomplish. Each unsafe journey puts another child in jeopardy. Every day that passes without safe housing leaves vulnerable girls exposed to threats that no child should ever have to face. By supporting this project, you are not just helping to build boarding facilities you are safeguarding childhood, ensuring access to education, championing gender equality, and investing in brighter futures. A safe place to stay means a child is protected. A protected child can stay in school. An educated child has the power to transform their family, their community, and even their nation. Together, let’s make sure that every vulnerable child has a safe space to learn, grow, and dream.
