A Project Report for the period of July 2017 to September 2017 for the project
“Support 500 Underprivileged Children for Education (#24436)”
functional in Rural centres of Maharashtra, Mumbai, India

Following are the activities conducted / undertaken for the abovementioned period:

1.Yoga sessions:

At Light of Life Trust's Worli centre in association with 'Ayangar Yoga Institute', session on yoga was conducted. Students thoroughly enjoyed and felt rejuvenated after this session.

2. Mahacharcha program:
Glimpses of a unique program - 'Mahacharcha' which is organised by Light of Life Trust, where distinguished academic students along with their parents shared their strategic methods and experiences of their academic performance with their juniors. They are also felicitated during this event by their school principal and teachers. One such event held at LOLT Kashele centre - Karjat district.

3. ‘Anant’ – an arts education project:
On 10th July, 2017, Light of Life Trust under their arts education project - Anant, introduced singing and dance classes at Nagar parishad school in Alibag. 45 students became a part of this unique initiative. Where, school principal and teachers present during the inaugural function appreciated the efforts taken by LOLT.

4. Workshop on Personality Development:
Personality Development Workshop for the students was conducted at Worli centre of Light of Life Trust. Students enjoyed the session and also participated in the role plays and activities conducted during this session.

5. Visit at Science Exhibition:
Light of Life Trust Worli centre students along with their mentors visit Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) train which had its halt at CST station, Mumbai on 21st July, 2017.
The basic objective was to contribute towards increasing understanding of the science of climate change, the observed and anticipated impacts, and different possible responses. The state-of-the-art exhibition aboard SECAS aimed to create awareness among various sections of society, especially students, as to how Climate Change can be combated through mitigation and adaptation.

6. Guest Lectures:

Nandurbar region centres of Light of Life Trust conducted guest lectures for the graduate students of LOLT. These sessions were quiet encouraging and motivating for the students. Guests were impressed by the confidence shown by the students.

7. Capacity Building Session for students:
Under AnandoPlus program (which is for higher secondary students) at Wai, Shelu Bazar and Khiniraja centres of Light of Life Trust in Washim region, capacity building session for students was conducted. The purpose of this capacity building session was to promote the students’ knowledge and skills. Sessions were based on topics like, “Success is in your hand” & “How to develop leadership”.
These sessions were very enlightening for the students. It also showed their utmost participation and response.

8. Regional festival celebration:
Raksha Bandhan, a festival of “bond of protection and love” between brother and sisters was celebrated across all the centres of Light of Life Trust by the students.
The festival celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters. On Raksha Bandhan, a sister ties a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother's wrist with a prayer for his prosperity and happiness. This symbolizes the sister's love. The brother gives her a token gift and a promise to protect her.

9. Awards, recognition and scholarship to students:
At the Aashayein event held at Jamnabai Narsee School, Light of Life Trust students of Anant programme (an arts education programme) won the First prize, both in Solo and Group dance category along with 6 months of scholarship to purse their career in dance.

10. Health care program:
Light of Life Trust under its Medical Mobile Unit - Healthcare programme, conducted ORS (OralRehydrationSolution) therapy awareness camp between 23rd to 29th of July, 2017. It was a collaborative effort by LOLT along with Indian Association of Pediatrics and Karjat Medical Association for Rural and Tribal population in and around Karjat region.
This effort by LOLT got press coverage in the local Pudhari newspaper published on 8th August, 2017.

11. Peers Day celebration:
In order to inculcate the leadership and teamwork qualities among students. Light of Life Trust Alibaug regional centres conducted Peers day and Dahi handi (Gokulashtami) festival. Various workshops were held during this event like making colour paper collage, tying friendship band, painting etc.
Students enjoyed the session thoroughly and learned about the team work importance and leadership qualities.

Peers Day was celebrated at Jalna centre of Light of Life Trust. This activity concentrates on friendship and its importance.
Each child gets his/her friend to the centre to be a part of this workshop or the activity. Every friend speaks about his friend about the changes he experience from the time he has been supported by LOLT.
Differences and misunderstandings among the friends are also weeded out which helps in building strong relationships.

12. Health check-up camps for the students:

Health issues are faced drastically in the remote villages of Nandurbar district. Which has a large impact on the attendance of the students attending school and daily classes conducted by Light of Life Trust. Therefore in the areas of Rajviheer and Somal centres of Light of Life Trust, health check-up camps were set up for the students to detect early health issues and also to inform the students about the cleanliness and precautions to be taken especially during the rainy season. Both the centres observed 75% attendance of the students for this health check-up camps.

13. Teachers Day celebration:

In India, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society.
5th September is the birth anniversary of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was a well-known diplomat, scholar, the President of India and above all, a teacher.
When some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if 5th September is observed as Teachers' day". From then onwards, the 5th of September has been observed as Teachers Day, in India.

This day was celebrated across all the centres of Light of Life Trust.

14. Kalpataru – a musical event:

‘Kalpataru’ - A musical by Light of Life Trust, was held on Saturday, 9th of Sept 2017, 7pm at Sophia Bhabha Auditorium, Breach Candy, Mumbai.

This event will was performed by the underprivileged children who are part of LOLT’s Anant project – imparting music & dance training to these children.


15. Workshop on ‘Preparing for Adolescence’:

At Karjat and Tiware centre of Light of Life Trust, a workshop on ‘Preparing for Adolescence’ was conducted for the students. Separate sessions was taken for boys and girls by the doctors.

These sessions are important initiative that aims to empower young people with accurate, age appropriate and culturally relevant information, promote healthy attitudes and develop skills to enable them to respond to real life situations in positive and responsible ways.


16. Dance Movement Therapy & Meditation Session:

A Session on DanceMovementTherapy (DMT) and Meditation was conducted for the students of Worli centre.

Dance therapy is a healing approach that involves the use of dance and body movement to improve physical, emotional, and mental well-being. In addition, dance therapy is said to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, and enhance mobility and muscle coordination. Whereas, Meditation reduces stress levels and alleviates anxiety. If we can reduce stress, many health benefits follow. Knowledge of Self – Meditation enables us to have a deeper understanding of our inner self. Through meditation we can gain a better understanding of our life's purpose.

Following were the list of activities which were conducted during the period ranging 01st April, 2017 till 30st June, 2017 in the areas covering Worli, Karjat, Mangaon, Nandurbar, Alibaug, Jalna and Washim Districts in Maharashtra state of India.

 1)      Group Discussion with students:

Group discussion with the students who have completed their class 10th and 12th was conducted at the Worli centre of Light of Life Trust. Eight students who have given their exams and were now looking forward to pursue their higher studies were invited to participate in the discussion and were informed about the various career options available to them and it also evolved as the platform to weed out their doubts.

Objective: The main objective of this activity was to involve student interaction and alsodevelop a platform to express their thoughts and career preferences and recommend them the best career opportunities matching their profiles and needs.

 

2)      Special Sessions:

Special sessions on ‘Impact of hormonal changes in teenage’ was conducted at KBP school, Pirkon village in the tehsil of Uran, Raigad district by Light of Life Trust. This guidance session was conducted for students of 8th and 9th std. and accordingly a session on ‘Motivation and love towards animals’ was conducted at Worli centre, Mumbai of Light of Life Trust.

Objective: The main objectives for conducting these kinds of programmes are to bringenlightenment and knowledge among students and also develop better understanding of various topics which they are unaware of. Also, the session towards developing the love towards animals was to weed out fear and develop better bonding between humans and animals.

 

3)      Group Meeting:

Group meeting was conducted by a representative from Light of Life Trust for Anando Plus students at Wai, Shelubazar and Khiniraja centre in Washim district. Total 44 students participated in the program.

Objective: The focus of this meeting was development of 'Task Force' - a group of Anandoplus students who become the representative of Light of Life Trust and carry forward different activities of LOLT.

 

4)      Newly enrolled Children & Parent Meeting:

At several centres of Light of Life Trust viz., Watur and Mantha centres in Jalna district, Nutan Vasahat centre in Jalna district, Bhatepuri centre in Jalna district, Karjat centre, Khopoli - Khalapur taluka of Raigad district, Alibaug centre, Tiware & Kondiwade centre - Karjat of Raigad district, for the newly enrolled students along with their parents a meeting was organized. Also, beneficiaries of Anando and Anando Plus interacted with the parents and students and shared their experiences. They also explained to the new joiner's along with their parents the various activities, workshops, supplementary Math and English sessions conducted by Light of Life Trust.

Objective: The main objective of this event was focused on disseminating the knowledge ofthe project Anando and Anando Plus, about Light of Life Trust and its Vision, Mission, Goals & Objectives.

 

5)   Study Material distribution:

At Karjat office, activity of making sets of book for distribution to SSC students was conducted. Two parent representatives were present to volunteer for this activity from Kashele village.

Objective: The objective was to provide study material to the underprivileged students.

 

6)      Workshops for the students:

Many workshops were conducted across all the regional centres of Light of Life Trust as follows:-

1)      At Khopoli - Anando Plus centre and at Lokkruti centre, Mohili – Karjat of Light of Life Trust, a one day Journalism workshop was conducted. It was conducted to build up interest of the Anando Plus students. In this session he gave detailed information on the Journalism course as well as career opportunities in this field. In all 22 students participated in the programme.

2)      At Worli centre, Mumbai of Light of Life Trust a Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) workshop was conducted. It was a very enlightening workshop for the students.

3)      At Worli centre, Mumbai of Light of Life Trust a session on 'Best out of Waste' was conducted. Students made new notebooks out of the old ones.

4)      At Jagruti centre, Tiware - Karjat, 'Anant' team organized Tabla workshop conducted by Avartan Gurukul, Pune. This workshop was conducted under the program Anant. Students who are interested in learning fine arts are trained for learning music and dance.

5)      At Worli centre of LOLT, 'Calligraphic Workshop' was started with enrolment of 10 students.

6)      At Thane centre of Light of Life Trust a workshop for women's titled 'Mahila Udyojak' was conducted informing women's about empowerment through skill training resulting in employment.

Objective: The objectives of these workshops were varied. But the common objectives weredeveloping the skills, interests, hobbies, enthusiasm, energy, enlightenment and among students.

 

7)          Guest Lecture:

1)      At Worli centre of Light of Life Trust, a seminar on 'Knowledge about gender equality’ by guest faculty from Akshara NGO.

2)      At Karjat, Light of Life Trust organized a guest lecture for 8th and 9th STD beneficiaries. The topic of discussion was 'Adolescent age, changes and challenges: Part II'. This session was conducted by Dombivili Rotary Club.

 

8)      Summer Camp / Activities:

Following summer activities and camps with different event and activities were held across regional centres of Light of Life Trust. As follows:-

1)      On 28th May, 2017 at Thane centre of Light of Life Trust, LOLT organized 7th day of the 'Summer Camp' and the session was conducted on Craft making.

2)      On 30th May, 2017 at Thane centre of Light of Life Trust, LOLT organized 8th day of the last 'Summer Camp'. This was a prize distribution ceremony and it also included fun and dance activity. In all on the last day 25 students participated for this event.

3)       On 1st, 2nd and 3rd June, 2017, at Khalapur centre of Karjat district, Summer Vacation camp was organized and the session was conducted on spreading computer knowledge among students. Students were taught to create Gmail account and were also taught how to send an email on day 1. On the second day 'DMLT session' was conducted and on the third day 'Dance session' was conducted by Anando Plus students for the participants.

4)      On 2nd of June 2017, at Bhatepuri centre - Jalna district of Light of Life Trust. 2 days Summer Vacation Event was organized. Students enjoyed various activities during this event on day 1. On day 2, a journalist from IBM Lokmat visited the camp and informed the children about benefits of reading the newspaper and also informed them that how the news are gathered and written. A session of drawing was also conducted among the students.

5)      On 2nd of June 2017, at Tiware centre and Diksal centre, Karjat, summer activity was conducted at Tiware centre and students were taught to make "Best out of Waste". Students made Photo Frames from the Newspaper. At Diksal centre students we taught to make paper bags from newspaper and later in the afternoon drawing session was conducted for them. The best part of the event was in the evening students went to the market and made awareness among the shopkeeper about the use of paper bags and avoidance of plastic bags.

 6)      On 3rd June 2017, at Tiware centre of LOLT, session on Agriculture was taken during the Summer Camp. Practical knowledge on Grafting was given.

 7)      On 3rd June 2017, at Khopoli centre of Khalapur Taluka of Raigad district of LOLT, LOLT conducted 2 days Summer Activity. On the first day "Akshar Moti Handwriting Course" and "Self Defence Training for Girls" was conducted.

 8)      On 3rd of June 2017, at Kondiwade centre of Karjat region of LOLT, summer vacation camp was conducted and a session on 'Dance in Drama' was undertaken.

 9)      On 4th of June, 2017, at Karjat centres of LOLT a summer camp activity was conducted and an activity on 'Origami art' was taught to the students followed by singing session in the afternoon. In the evening students distributed paper bags to the shopkeepers which they made on day 1.

 10)   On 4th of June, 2017, at Kondiwade centre of Karjat district - LOLT, on the 4th day of summer vacation activity student made costumes from newspaper for dance. These dance costumes were the visualization from Natyashastra in which there are four drama styles viz. Agnik, Vachik and Asharyam. From this style student learned 'Drama in Dance'.

11)   On 5th of June 2017, at Washim zone centres of LOLT, Summer Vacation activities were conducted for the students. This included Orator ship skill computation, Handwriting skills, Mehendi designing.

12)   On 5th of June 2017, at Jeevan Asha Community centre - Tiware - Karjat, one of our Anando Plus student conducted dance session as part of the summer vacation camp for the students.

13)   On 6th of June 2017, at Chowk centre of Karjat zone - a summer vacation camp was organized for 6 days starting from 1st of June up till 6th of June. Sessions, events and activities conducted during this period are: Spoken English, Making flower pots from the newspaper, Drama session, card making session and also parents meeting informing them about the Educational Material Distribution program. Also, uniforms were given to the students during this event.

14)   On 6th of June 2017, at Alibaug zone - summer activities were conducted for the students, this simultaneously started in Alibaug centre, Borli centre and Nehuli centre and the activities would go on for 6 days starting 6th of June. Following were the activities which were conducted: Plastic Craft making activity, Varali painting, Special guidance session of Dramatic Skill Development. Singing & Acting, Elocution and Presentation.

Following were the list of activities which were conducted during the period ranging 01st January, 2017 till 31st March, 2017 in the areas covering Karjat, Mangaon, Nandurbar, Alibaug, Jalna and Washim Districts in Maharashtra state of India.
1) Parents Meeting cum Workshop:

Parent meeting was conducted at Worli centre. In all 18 parents attended the meeting. Parents were informed about the Jewelry making course which is run by Light of Life Trust as a part of the vocational training to students.

Objective: The main objective of the training cum workshop was to make parents aware about the skills they can acquire through training which can help them to earn livelihood or provide additional support to their family. Targeted parents were the women in the family.

2) Special Programmes:

A special program titled ‘No Child Left Behind’ was conducted at Karjat centre of Karjat Taluka in Maharashtra. The objective of the programme was to focus on the development of the skills in the children focus on their presentation and other skills and enhance them. Case work students were selected for this programme.

Objective: The main objective of this programme was to focus on the development skills of the child and give them platform to showcase and enhance their skillsets. Students were guided and trained by the teachers and mentors and they found this event as enlightening and motivating.

3) Career Counseling & Guidance Session:

Career counseling and guidance sessions were organized at different locations across various centres of Light of Life Trust and were focused on 10th Std (SSC – Senior Secondary School Students)

Objective: The main objective of the program was to inform students about the various career opportunities which are available to them after their Secondary Schooling and help them to choose the correct stream of education according to their interest.

4) Drama Workshop:

At Worli centre of Light of Life Trust a ‘Drama Workshop’ was conducted for the students by Mr. Ravi Pednekar.

Objective: The main objective of this workshop was to enhance the personality of the students and also give them opportunity to explore their talents pertaining to artistic traits and enhance interest.

5) Puppet Making Workshop:

Puppet making workshop was conducted at Worli centre of Maharashtra. This workshop was part of the objective to enhance the creative and artistic traits of the students.
Objective: Students were encouraged to develop their hobbies and invest their free time by enhancing their skill sets through these kinds of training sessions.

6) ‘Bal Kala Mahotsav - 2016’ – An annual cultural event for the students:

This is the mega event which happens once in a year and is celebrated across all the centres of Light of Lif eTrust across different regions in the state. This event is for the students and by the students. Various kinds of activities, competitions and programmes are organized under this event viz., Essay Writing, Singing, Dance – Solo & Group, Skits etc. This event starts form December and continues till January.

Objective: The main objective of this program was to give platform to the students to showcase their talent in their creative field and award them prizes for their innate talents.

7) New Initiatives – ‘E learning’:

Students are provided supplementary classes in the field of Maths and English, this is an initiative to inculcate better understanding and hold among students about these subjects. Now, new techniques of learning in the form of digital media or adopted to utilize the potential of internet to explore plethora of information available across the globe and enhance deeper understanding of the subject.

Objective: The main objective of this learning was to make students e literate and help them to explore the internet medium to explore the contents for learning on their own and develop better hold and understanding of the subjects.

8) Yuva Mahotsav – an annual cultural event for the elder children:

Similar to the ‘Balkala Mahotsav’ conducted for young children, Yuva Mahotsav was conducted similarly for the elder children.

9) Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2016 - 17:
Many students of Light of Light Trust participated in the annual mega event, SCMM 2016 - 17. The student along with the entire team of Light of Life Trust team participated in the marathon to raise funds for their NGO and help to raise donations through their online initiative as well to support the beneficiaries of their NGO.

10) Workshop & Guest Lecture:
A workshop on “Challenges faced during examination” was conducted at Parditakmor centre of Light of Life Trust.

Guest lectures were conducted at Mangaon, Sai Centre of Light of Life Trust by Mr. Pramod Bhopale (Representative from Postal Department) on Career Guidance and similarly at Wighale centre of Light of Life Trust by Mr. Dilip Ubhale (Teacher & Moderator) from Ashokdada Sable Vidyalaya.

Programmatic Report: October to December 2016

In this period the major focus was on Weekend Workshops and Student Friendly Supplementary Education Program.

There were Guests who were invited to take guest lectures, the topics covered were:

a)      Hard Work

b)      Goal Setting

c)       Faith &

d)      How to cope up with fear of exams

Following is a descriptive on the events which were conducted during this period, ranging from October to December 2016:-

1. Student Friendly Supplementary Education Program (SFSEP):

This is an ongoing activity which is undertaken across all the centres of Light of Life Trust. The major focus is on English and Mathematics subject. These are primarily support classes to clear the doubts faced by the students during their academic studies and also helps in strengthening the basic and important concepts of the subject.

This is conducted on regular basis every day for two hours where one hour is for English Session and another is for Mathematics.

 2. Weekend Workshops:

Weekend Empowerment workshops were conducted throughout October, November and December. In all 70 workshops were conducted across centres and the average attendance during this session was 78%. The topics which were focused during these session were Time Management, Team Work, Ambition & Action and Importance of Higher Education.

Impact: It created a major impact on the students, below are certain observations / learnings:

  • Student’s understood the importance of Time Management
  • Student’s confidence level were increased and it developed good rapport between peers
  • They understood the importance of managing recourses and understanding the importance of time in their life
  • They were able to interpret and explain the usage of it with examples during the workshop
  • They understand the importance’s of education in their life
  • They were able to define goals in their life which are very important to realize their dreams

 3. Guest Lectures:

Many guests were invited across centres to speak to students on various aspects of hard work and it’s important in life. These sessions were very inspiring which brought about changes and enlighten

a)      Hard Work

b)      Goal Setting

c)       Faith &

d)      How to cope up with fear of exams

 

4.Parents Teacher Meeting:

Across all the centres during this period total 5 parents meetings were held. Overall attendance during this event by the parents were 80 %. Parent’s participation during this event were excellent.  During this event following subject were discussed: Adolescence issues, Physical, Mental, Social changes, Relationships, Ambitions, Students confidence and motivation. In every parents meeting students’ academic growth has been shared with parents.

 

Overall Achievements during these activities were:

 

  • Weekend Empowerment Workshop average attendance achieved was 78%.
  • Student Friendly Supplementary Enhancement Program average attendance achieved was 72%
  • Case profile completion accomplished
  • Baseline Survey- 100%
  • 5 Parents meetings were conducted during this period by achieving over all attendances of 80%

Report:

Educational Material Distribution is one of the key component of Project Anando. Every year this program is organised at the beginning of the academic year.

This year this activity was conducted in July – August 2016, across all regions where Anando beneficiaries were provided with set of education linked material compromising Text Books, Notebooks, Uniform Material, School Bag and necessary stationary.

Parents, school principals, school teachers were invited for the program. Apart from actual distribution of educational linked material, LOLT team also conducted awareness session to educate parents on the expected support from them to ensure children’s continued education.

LOLT’s senior management participated in the program at motivated beneficiaries to begin the new academic year with full of hope and aspirations.
