MOCAFON Scholarship Revalidation with Beneficiaries

In November 2024, the Mordecai Care Foundation of Nigeria (MOCAFON) officially launched the MOCAFON Scholarship Education Support Programme, designed to empower 50 undergraduate orphans across Nigerian universities. This initiative is part of our long-term commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty and reducing the rate of university dropouts among orphans.

Now marking the first year in this five-year scholarship project, MOCAFON remains dedicated to ensuring academic excellence and accountability among her beneficiaries. The Foundation conducts annual performance reviews based on each student’s sessional or yearly results, with a focus on maintaining the agreed-upon minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50. Beneficiaries are expected to sustain or improve their academic performance each year until graduation.

Out of the 10 pioneer undergraduate orphan beneficiaries, three students—Darasimi, Rukayat, and Gbekeloluwa—who were on scholarship prior to the official launch of the initiative, have successfully completed their studies in August 2025 from their respective institutions. The remaining seven beneficiaries will undergo the scholarship revalidation process this November 2025, to assess their continued eligibility based on academic performance.

The Revalidation Exercise is scheduled to hold on November 1st, 2025, where the beneficiaries’ academic records will be reviewed in line with the program’s academic excellence standards and renewal requirements. This process ensures transparency, accountability, and sustained motivation among our scholars.

Meanwhile, new applicants are currently under review for possible inclusion in the next cycle of the scholarship program. As MOCAFON continues to expand this impactful educational support, we appeal to our sponsors, partners, friends, and donors to continue their invaluable support toward sustaining and scaling up this noble initiative.

EDUCATION: A BREAKER OF CYCLE

Education is one of the key ways to break the cycle of poverty but for the less privileged this has been a daunting task filled with heartbreak and sometimes hopelessness. This is even more so for orphans, who have no family support and no one to rely on. The struggle to pay for even the most basic things that most of us take for granted; tuition, accommodation, study materials, food and daily needs often leave no way forward except to drop out of school. When you have to choose between food and education, food will always win out.

This is where Mordecai Care Foundation of Nigeria comes in, our vision is that every child can go to school. We hope to offer financial support to our beneficiaries because this goes beyond money but often offers stability, dignity and hope. It allows our beneficiaries to focus on their studies, build skills and envision a future of independence and contribution to society.

At MOCAFON, we are committed to stand in the gap for these students, by investing in them we are building future leaders and changemakers who will pay it forward.

For the 50 Undergraduate Orphan Educational Scholarship, we have approved the first batch and we are already mobilizing more prospective beneficiaries for the second batch. With your continued support, we can ensure that our beneficiaries have a chance to succeed. More donations are needed for the remaining undergraduate orphans and most especially our special needs candidates.
