Dear friends,
Children are looking forward to the "football exravaganza" although they can only imagine what it is and how it will be. The thought of the event gives them excitement and positive energy.
For our children football is be anthing. It could be a game, it could anything that they kick with their feet and can played anywhere. As long as there is more than one children to play. Everyday they innovate their own football in the safe space and continue to shine in their innovated games.
In the safe space, those from the streets, those in foster care homes and from the community meet. Others will be playing pool table, others hide and seek, table tennis and their own football in a very samll space. You and I watching, cannot underestimate the joy and satisfaction these children experience. These games give them a chance to be children. A valuable stage that different circumstances almost robs them of.
In the life of a child, the impact of sports is huge. We see friendships being developed, self esteem being raised, ability to express themselves and so many changes happening. The beautiful thing is to see them be children. Their body structures quickly changes, how they talk and learn to share. We have seen their brains develop and in some instances they have come up with suggested solution for themselves and their families.
Ali who is being supported in an alternative shelter said " madam, please take my brother also. He is in town with my mother. He will start to sniff glue in town" ,he pleaded for his 5 year old brother who is at the risk of missing school and proper childhood.
Sam 11 years who is being accommodate with his elder brother come from the community and all their lives have been neglected and left to fend for themselves. When they joined, they were very sad, harldy smiled, malnourished and could not epxress themselves. Through sports, there is an amazing turn around in them both physicall, emotionally, socially and academically.
This would not be possible without you and we are extremely greatful for your support. If you have ANY question, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks,
Liz
