Enrollment of deaf girls for hair dressing
By Faridah Nabbanja | Executive Director
Our dear readers, Warm greetings from Mpigi Women with Disabilities. We are in the process of enrolling deaf girls for hair dressing and cosmetology courses in both goverment aided and private institutions. This is the time we start on the process because government aided insitutions begin thier terms in April. We identify and register deaf girls who qualify to study.
Students are required to take some items such as matresses, blankets, books and other basic personal needs. Each student requirements cost USD 100. We are always thankful for the support that you give to girls with disabilities becaus it directly impacts on thier lives.
We treasure you

With the funding you have been giving us, one of our beneficaries has managed to develop her business and is now supporting other deaf people to live a life.
She is doing hair dressing. When we visited her, we found her with a family. She is taking care of a six months pregnant deaf girl with no parents and the man who impregnanted her is not known. She has a little boy who is soon joining school and this child belongs to her deaf friend. She has another girl with a physical disability who she trains hair dressing. She used to stay alone and she was managing life but now the going is getting harder for her.
She has some customers but her landlord gave her a period of three months to leave the house where she is doing business from. She is now trying to get money so that she shifts to another house in December this year to continue doing business and continue supporting others. She is doing a wonderful job despite the high expenditure with little income.
She is appealing to you our good friends to support her shift to another place and also add more capital in her business to enable her continue supporting others.
We are so greatful for your support. Thank you. Thank you once again

Shida (not real name) is a deaf young mother of one son. With support from GlobalGiving she was given booster funds of USD 61.1 which she added into her hair dressing business by purchasing some saloon requirements. She now has some customers as well. Currently she is capable of stocking saloon requirements and training community members in hairdressing despite the diffrence in communication. From her hair dressing business she has been able to set up a side business of a fruits grocery to complement on the income from the hair dressing business. She pays school fees and contributes to scholastic materials for her son who is now in Primary one. She joined a saving group where she saves on a weekly basis..
She say she requires more capital to have more hair braids and weaves for her customers and also add make up services.
MPWDA lacks the proper word to express our thank you but we are really deeply thankful.
We believe with more support, Shida can boost her business and we also train and boost other female deaf people to have such a business which they can manage in one place.
We thank you once again.
