This time, we are delighted to introduce Wojtek—a recipient of the Professor Zbigniew Pietrasinski Creative Scholarship awarded by the Pro Akademika Foundation. Here is his story:
Before psychology, there was film - directing. But it turned out to be insufficient for me. Simply telling stories about what surrounds me didn't give me that flow state. I was looking for something more, something that would allow me to get a deeper understanding of what is actually happening here. Completely by chance, I stumbled upon Robert Sapolsky's book "Behave", and I was hooked. Destination: psychology.
Science and research are, for me, the only true path to understanding. For three years now, research has been my whole world, my daily life. I fell in love with methodology, data analysis, and scientific rigor. Science allowed me to look at the world in ways I wouldn't have even imagined before. Ever since I was a kid, I've loved sci-fi - both movies and books. There was a time when I used to escape into those fantastical stories; they seemed much more interesting and rich than reality.
Now, things are different.
Thanks to science, the world around me turns out to be that one and infinitely fascinating reality. Even though my main research area at the Bullying Research Center at SWPS University is peer group dynamics, reality's 'offerings' are infinitely intriguing, constantly handing me new research ideas and areas to explore.
Thanks to science, I look at what surrounds us differently - more calmly, less judgmentally. After all, isn't the world around us fascinating and beautiful? As human beings, we are so different, and we can build bridges on those differences. Our world is vibrant with life and diversity - which we are only just beginning to discover and slightly understand. Put simply: I want to research it all.
Thanks to the Scholarship, I'm getting extra wind in my sails. I'm equipping myself with the tools I need and continuing along my research path. A boost like this does a world of good.
