FIRST QUATER REPOER FOR 2023

By Edidiong David | Project leader

In this first quarter of the 2023 fiscal year, the Foundation again lived up to its promise of restoring hope to vulnerable households with children at the center of these supports in three out of four service domains of their intervention such as: Schooled, Healthy, and stable through direct service provisions and referrals to other service providers for a complete continuum of care for her children.

HEALTHY:  As the popular saying goes, “Health is wealth”, during this reporting period, the intervention in this domain focused on the provision of several health packages such as awareness creation and mobilization of women and adolescents - ages, 18 to 24 for the uptake of COVID-19 vaccination.  In commemoration of the world TB day, the foundation joined with other local partners carried out a sensitization exercise to increase the uptake of TB services and reduce TB-related deaths in the community where 57 children (20 males and 37 females) were screened of TB. Out of these 57 children screened, 8 (all females) children who were found to be TB presumptive were escorted to the nearest health facilities closest to them where they were placed on treatment.

SCHOOLED: The cash crunch brought about by the naira redesign and return of old naira notes brought about a significant distortion in our programming as the banks could not process finances, students could not go to school due to lack of cash by their parents to pay transport fares for their children, the foundation mobilized resources to support 50 children in its program in contribution to the achievement of the 4th sustainable development goal -Quality education. These 50 beneficiaries are spread across the three LGAs of, Calabar South LGA: 11 (5 female and 6 male), Calabar Municipality LGA: 16 children (4 female, 12 Male), Akamkpa LGA: (12 females, 11 Males) These children were provided educational support services such as payment of school fees and levies, and provision of scholastic materials, administered educational performance assessment for 50 (21 female 24 males) during school visits and school visits. The assessments showed that the children are all performing well academically, this also shows that their parents have now taken the center stage to ensure the children perform well by providing the needed care and supervision.

STABLE: During this preceding period, the Foundation continued its support for caregivers (30; 6 males and 24 females) and adolescents (40; 12 males and 28 females) in financial education.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION: The team carried out program field visits to Monitor and evaluate the level of improvement, and the level of stakeholders’ involvement in the foundation's program activities. These monitoring visits helped the foundation to get feedback from community stakeholders as well as the level of implementation of the foundation's work plan for the quarter.

NEXT STEPS: On like every other business and organization, the foundation's plans to engage caregivers in intense entrepreneurship ventures, were affected by the naira redesign and exchange policy as this could not be achieved due to limited funds availability. In the next quarter, we shall carry out a campaign for the commemoration of menstrual hygiene day to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management, during this campaign, the foundation plans to raise funds to support the distribution of sanitary towels for 100 girls. The objective of this campaign is in a bid to achieve the foundation’s aim of tackling period poverty amongst its adolescent girls which would be drawn from 5 schools in Calabar. We continually appreciate your continuous support of vulnerable households in Calabar. With your support, we will continue to strive to restore hope to the more vulnerable
