Puppies
Puppies

Today we are so happy to tell a very good news to you; Johann became a father!

We introduced Johann's story before, and now he is a father! His wife is a very beautiful golden retriever, Maron. They had very sweet children in July 2017.

It had took almost six monthes since they were born. The training of the puppies is going very well. Most of them live in "Healing and Recreation Salon for Human & Dogs", and are becoming very friendly and sweet therapy dogs. They live with their father, Johann, and sometimes they do educational activities on the street together.

We hope the sweet puppies grow up to be strong and healthy, and become good therapy dogs like Johann.

Chocolat in Japan
Chocolat in Japan

~We had rescued a stray dog in Turkey, and she has already finished to train to a therapy dog. But I would like to introduce this story~

Chocolat is a girl, estimated to be 1 year old and the mix breed of black labrador retriever and  terrier.

We rescued the 4th stray dog, Chocolat, in Ankara Turkey.

In January, it was very cold and rainy day. Ms Eiko Kazama, who is a member of Jata, found Chocolat, driving a car on the expressway in Ankara. Chocolat has very beautful and soft black hair, so "black something" ran at full speed. She was looked like chasing the car in front.

Ms Kazama knew that was a puppy, and thoght soon or later, the puppy would be to be run over by some cars. Fortunately, at that time there were few cars on the ewpressway, so she stopped her cay aside the way, and sounded the Klaxon. Then the small black puppy also stopped running, and came to her.

She could not leave the puppy on the expressway. The puppy, Chocolat, was not rejected to ride on the car. She brought the puppy to the diffirent safe place, a shop, then gave her some bread. Chocolat must have been so hungry, so ate a lot.

This is the first day, Ms Kazama met Chocolat in Anakara.

Then, she named the lovely dog, Chocolat, and decided to take care of her.

Now, Chocolate came to Japan, and be loved a lot by many people as a Therapy dog. But the way to become a therapy dog was so hard and long.

First of all, Chocolat would have been a street dog for a long time. She didn't know discipline at all. Originally she is very clever, frindly and kind to people and the other dogs. It was very very great and the most important point to train a Therapy dog. But the other  discipline was not enough.

Chocolat often entered to Ms Kazama's kichen and stoled food, and bite furnitures. Also her eyes were so sharp and looked to be so sad. Her face and behavior was totaly "street dog".

It took long time, but Ms Kazama trained Chocolat with big love. Strangely, her eyes became very soft, and increase smile. Her bad behavior also decrease.

This April, finally Chocolat came to Japan ! Ms Kazama is a member of JATA, and also a chairman of Healing & Recreation Center for Human and Dogs, where is a place anyone to interact with Therapy dogs. Then Chocolat came to the center...

She was a very very great Therapy dog. There are many people who have mental illness, and handicapped in this center. Chocolat is very sweet. She comes to such people and stay there kindly. Everyone who meets Chocolat love her.

All staffs hope Chocolat become much happier in Japan.

Smiling Johann with many friends
Smiling Johann with many friends

It has been almost 1 year since Johann came to Japan from Turkey.

He eats well, sleeps well, and smiles well.

Now he can participate in various activities as a therapy dog. He has many dog friends in Japan. He is becoming a very great therapy dog.

He plays an active part in Healing & Recreation Center for Human and Dogs, where people can interact with therapy dogs  and feel relaxed. The purpose people come to this center is up to the person. Some come to heal their tired mentality for their work, human relations, and so on. Some come to interact with dogs because they cannot have them at home. Some have mental illness, like depression, and try to heel that for the power of therapy dogs. Some parents come to our center with their children for their education.

The purpose is different, it means the atmosphere of the person and how to interact with dogs are also different. Children usually do not understand how to touch dogs, so sometimes hit dogs. The person with serious mental illness tends to have the unique atmosphere.

Therapy dogs need to be kind to all kinds of people all the time.

Johann is very great. We think he understands what the person need; enjoyment, education or healing. He is a very very great therapy dog.

Coco participated in enlightenment activity
Coco participated in enlightenment activity

Coco is English Cocker Spaniel, and a very sweet girl. When she was less than 1 years old, she came to our association two years before.

Before she comes to our assoiation, she was a pet dog.

When she was 4 months, she became a member of family in Tokyo from a pet shop.

In Japan it is still very common to buy dogs (almost all dogs are puppy) in pet shops. There are so many pet shops in Japan, and can buy dogs very easily there. As you know, puppies are so sweet, so many buy them without thinking well, like just to buy their dresses. And lastly too many people give up having dogs. Many of such dogs who lost their family suddenly are killed in public health centers.

This is a too sad story but it often happens in Japan.

Coco was also the victim. When she was just 9 months old, her family decided to give up living with her, and called to our association. They said they want us to be the new family for her. We were so sad to hear that, but decided to approved it.

Coco is very sweet and has very kind charactaristic. But grooming and training was was not enough at that time. She didn't know how to interact with people and other dogs well. It was so hard to train her to therapy dog.

Still she needs training, but a little by litthe, she is becoming a very great therapy dog.

This winter she started to experience enlightenment and fundraising activity on the street. The purpose of this activity is passer-by interact with therapy dogs and feel the importance of them.

She was great. She was so friendly and could be interacted with so many people. All people who interacted with Coco smiled naturally.

Stiil it is a little bit difficult to participate in animal assisted activity, but we believe in she must be a great therapy dog in near future.

when he was rescued
when he was rescued

February 2016, a dog became a member of “Healing & Recreation Center for Human and Dogs” , which is asssociated with Japan Animal Therapy Association, and the recreation center for anyone to interact with therapy dogs freely, as a therapy dog.

He is Johann, was a stray dog in Turkey.

One year ago he was rescued by Ms. Eiko Kazama, the head director of “Hito to Inu to no Ikoi no basho” – General Incorporated Association Healing & Recreation Center for Human and Dogs – , on the street in Turkey.

In Turkey, Golden Retrever is very popular, but many discarded by the owners and become stray dogs. He was the one of such dogs.

At that time he was gaunt, only 25 kg, and scared at everything. Especially he scared sticks. Maybe he was abused by such kind of things.

He had been raised with the complete love of Ms. Kazama, and many kind people, for one year…

He came to Japan finally.

And we found how great he is as a therapy dog.

Now he is almost 35 kg and very healthy.

Now he is in Japan, and bring people smile in Healing & Recreation Center for Human and Dogs.
