Girl child is considered as a burden on the family in the some areas. This is due to illiteracy, lack of awareness and conservative thinking of the society. In order to address this situation, RSKS India is doing many awareness workshops, sessions, activities under the HER VOICE project. This project is to aware, educate, and bring a change in the male dominated society and all the project activities are also done at the ground level. In this context, one of the awareness done at the grassroots level is through the village action groups. The group consists of adolescent girls and boys who are going to school and two separate groups are formed. Both the groups and boys work together at their own village to raise awareness on the social issues.
In this context, these groups identified the women from their villages who were pregnant and then when the baby girl was born of any of the women then these groups informed RSKS team and then the whole team went at the house of the new born girl child and then welcomed the parents of the new born girl child by playing the plates, and then garlanded both the parents in order to honor them and the village action groups danced and sang in front of them to make the birth of the girl child an occasion. After this they also set up a name plate outside the house where the girl child was born so that everyone could know the house by the girls name and the girl would get recognition. At last, the groups gave the parents a tree and went to their courtyard to plant that tree as this tree would always be the resemblance of the girl child in their house. All this work is done in order to change the thinking of the society.
These village action groups are bringing small changes in the mindset of the rural community. The parents of the girl child feel immense respect as they are honored by someone on the birth of a girl child. The mother of the girl child is so happy as she had hesitation earlier due to the conservative thinking of the society however when she is greeted by the adolescent children of village action groups and see their zeal to celebrate the birth of her girl child, she also feels excitement. These children are bringing small changes at the ground level and are becoming role models to others as they are eradicating social evils from the ground level itself through awareness, education and affinity. The parents of the new born girl child thanked RSKS India team and these adolescent children from bottom of their heart for making the birth of their girl child an celebration.

Adolescent's Solidarity Against Social Evils......

Dear Patron !
RSKS India Family wishes you a Happy #GivingTuesday!
It is seen at the many rural areas that there are many social evils still prevailing over there. This is the dark secret of the villages which many know. The social evils like child marriage, gender based violence, eve teasing, female foeticide, domestic violence etc are common at the villages and this is the reason why these issues must be addressed. This happens due to the conservative thinking of the rural people and male dominance in the villages. The people who even try to raise voice against these are then neglected by the other village people. This all is happening in this 21st century due to lack of awareness and education at the rural villages. This could be stopped gradually but with proper awareness and consultation.
In this context, RSKS India has formed village action groups in many villages under the HER VOICE project of RSKS India. This project is run. In the village action groups, the school going children have been selected and then 2 groups are formed in a village. One group is of adolescent boys and the other group is of adolescent girls. These groups are then taught to fight against the social evils prevailing in the villages and are told to share any information related to these social evils so that RSKS India team members could do their consultation & awareness work. These groups find out the families in which new girl is born and then RSKS Team along with these group members go to their home and honor the parents of the girl children and then provide them a tree as a remark on the girl child and that tree is planted at the courtyard of the house of the family. After this, the name of the girl child is being marked on front of the house of the family.
These village action groups are able to spread the message of ending social evils from the villages to the thousands of people living in the villages and are also a step forward towards raising awareness in the villages. The village action groups were able to celebrate the birth of many new born girl children and honoring their parents which surely changed the mindset of some people living in the villages. The trees planted at the courtyard to remember the girl child would surely be providing the family shade and fruits even after the marriage of the girl child. The RSKS team is able to know the accurate information from the ground level through these groups. The monthly meetings of these groups are making these children to become more alert and vigilant which is the reason why they all took to always never ever commit or support any sort of social evils. The parents as well as the children thanked RSKS India team members for this wonderful program which is standing as a wall against the social evils.
