World Cleanup Day 2026: 51.2 Tonnes Removed

By Team Mayekoo | Project Lead

On September 19, Mayekoo and Let’s Do It Ghana brought 576 volunteers from 21 organizations together at Ananse Beach in Nungua for World Cleanup Day 2026.

Over the course of the cleanup, volunteers contributed approximately 1,728 hours of collective action and removed 51.2 metric tons of waste and debris from the coastline. That included about 0.5 tons of recyclable plastic bottles, along with fishing nets, wood, non-recyclable plastics, and other marine waste.

The turnout showed what is possible when communities, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals work side by side. For Mayekoo, the cleanup is also part of a broader commitment to sustained coastal restoration and more responsible waste management in Ghana.

Support Mayekoo’s continued work to restore and protect Ghana’s coastline.
