Girls equality and community action in Ghana

Dear Go Girl Ghana supporter,

we hope this report finds you in good health and happiness. 

Covid-19 and the related measures keep impacting the girls and communities that Go Girl Ghana is working with. We have noticed that we have been sent back a decade in our work to empower girls to take control of their futures. 

In the last quarter we have worked in schools to talk about menstruation cycles and with the families of teen mothers to be on how we can bring them back to school. We are thankful for our dedicated team! 

In July, Go Girl Ghana and The Constellation teamed up to start a cross country program against the impact of Covid-19 in 5 different countries: Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, India and Indonesia. By teaming up we can learn and grow from each other and are so happy to work together. We organised a crowdfunding campaign too and we are grateful to the 26 donors who together raised a sum of 2273 euros to date. This is a great show of support.

Team Go Girl Ghana

With the schools re-opening, we were finally able to start our first Go Girl Meetings in Manya Krobo district. We have now set foot on the ground in 10 communities and built relationships with the schools and community leaders.

We are now active in the following communities:

Okwenya
Yokunya

It was a succesful start where the girls openly spoke about their concerns and how they feel we are able to support them. The main concern now is to find the girls who became pregnant in 2020 and dropped out of school. We want to make sure they get the support they deserve to go back to school after giving birth. We are looking forward to the next quarter!
