Digital Skills for Disadvantaged Children in China

By Sebastien Carrier, Ph.D. | Program Director

As the spring semester draws to a close, we are pleased to share progress from the first half of 2025. Following a successful 2024, our Digital Literacy Program has continued to grow steadily, enabling us to deliver high-quality digital education to disadvantaged children in eight provinces across China: Jiangsu, Henan, Gansu, Guangdong, Yunnan, Tianjin, Anhui, and Shanghai.

So far this year, over 1,144 under-served students have participated in one of our digital literacy programs, supported by 140 trained volunteers who have delivered more than 600 engaging and impactful lessons.

Over the past two years, we have made significant strides in enhancing and diversifying our curriculum. Our course offerings now cover a wide range of key digital skills, including STEM, coding (Scratch 3.0, Scratch Jr., Code.org), C++, Java, LEGO Spike, graphical programming, 3D printing, computer basics (Microsoft Office, internet safety, online research), and artificial intelligence (AI). This comprehensive curriculum is designed to foster creativity, strengthen problem-solving abilities, and deepen students’ understanding of programming and digital technologies — skills that are increasingly vital in today’s world.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the tireless efforts and generosity of our volunteers, donors, and supporters. Thank you for helping us expand access to transformative educational opportunities for under-served children across China.
