By Makaia | Team
![]()
Makaia and their partners started this journey to make a dream come true. Thanks to them and the donators who contributed trough GlobalGiving this project is now a reality.
On April 21, a group of 20 women were certified as junior front-end developers. This group started an employability process to access better opportunities in the IT sector. Currently, 16 of them are working in companies related to technology and they are applying the knowledge that they acquire during the Bootcamp in Academia Geek.
These jobs represent the started point in the programming area. We still working with other women who are looking for alternatives in STEM to improve their living conditions.
Keep in touch and don´t miss any detail of this trip!

Geek Academy a Passport to knowledge By MAKAIA
By Makaia | Academia Geek
![]()
Many things are happening with the boys and girls that started this journey through technology.
On April 21, we had our Demo Day, an event to show the skills developed by 20 girls who are now Junior Frontend developers. Three of them are now employed by companies and they have the opportunity to improve their living conditions. We are looking for new opportunities for the rest of this group. Thanks to be part of this process!
Nowadays, 24 youths are part of Geek Academy, they are learning about front-end concepts, design thinking, and 21st-century skills. They are developing abilities related to these topics and preparing themselves for employment.
We as Makaia expect that the new abilities acquired during the courses will fit the criteria of the technology sector and we can assure their employment. Access to new information on programming languages will improve their skills and increase the chances of employability. Also, it will help guarantee better living conditions.
Follow us and don´t miss any detail of this trip!

Young people passionate about coding
By MAKAIA | Project Leader
We are very happy with the progress in our School of Code and Programming now called ACADEMIA GEEK (Geek Academy). The call for applications has been very well received and there are many young people who are motivated to be part of the change.
There are 366 people interested in our offer and we are still motivated to increase our participants to bring the program to all the young people of the city. We started looking for students in November, now we are about to start the training sessions in February.
We were able to count with partners of different entities that work for closing the unemployment gaps in the city, and who will accompany young people in the employability process to enter the labor market, as well as for the development of interviews and interaction in work teams. We worked in campaigns to deliver information of our offer in all the communes, libraries, telecentres and community spaces.
