The Rural Smiles Foundation is bridging the STEM education gap in Kibaale, Uganda, by establishing a Technology Access Centre. This project will equip students with hands-on skills in coding, robotics, and engineering, train teachers, and engage the community through outreach activities. Together, we can empower youth, create pathways to meaningful careers, and drive local development. Support us in building a brighter future!
In Uganda, the importance of STEM education cannot be overstated. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) 2019, 78% of the population is under the age of 30. Despite this youthful demographic, there is a significant gap in STEM education and employment opportunities, especially in rural areas. The World Bank reports that youth unemployment stands at 13.3%, and the lack of practical skills in technology and engineering is a contributing factor.
The project addresses the STEM education gap in Kibaale District by enhancing skills, training teachers, and providing infrastructure. It will equip students with hands-on skills in coding, robotics, and other STEM fields, preparing them for future careers. Teacher training programs will improve the quality of STEM education and ensure sustainability. A Technology Access Centre will be established, offering students and teachers modern equipment and a conducive learning environment.
The project's long-term impact includes increased STEM skills, better education quality, and future readiness for careers in technology and engineering. By reducing youth unemployment through practical skills training, it fosters economic growth. Teacher training and curriculum integration will sustain a STEM culture, benefiting future students. Technological empowerment will enable the community to solve local issues and innovate in agriculture, healthcare, and business, driving development.
