Introducing the GriSHARE (Draw & SHARE) Team!

We’d like to introduce the GriSHARE Team, the team behind the WikiHow Guides for Abortion Support content we’ve been featuring in our activity updates!

The name “GriSHARE” combines the Korean word grida (), meaning “to draw,” with “SHARE.” When pronounced in Korean, it can also be understood as “Let’s Draw and SHARE!” The name reflects what the team is all about: creating and sharing information in accessible and engaging ways.

The GriSHARE Team brings together SHARE activists and designers to create content that makes information about sexual and reproductive health and rights easier for everyone to understand and use, while also creating alternative images free from discrimination, stigma, and prejudice.

The team officially got started this year. During the first half of the year, we created 10 pieces of content each on How to Have a Medical Abortion and How to Support a Friend Who Is Having an Abortion. We’re now getting ready to publish them on our blog!

During the first half of the year, the GriSHARE Team first established the overall direction of the project—including the topics and audiences, the scope of the content, and how it would be distributed—and developed a stable way of working together as a team.

Much of the content SHARE has produced in the past has involved complex or highly specialized information. This project is particularly meaningful because we’re working to create content that can be easily understood by a much wider audience, including young people.

Even with our busy schedules, working with GriSHARE has also been a chance to pause, refresh, and try something new. Sharing ideas and creating content together has been a process of learning as well as a lot of fun. For SHARE’s staff, working in an unfamiliar way—such as practicing “writing in plain language”—has also encouraged us to think about new approaches to our work.

As we developed the content, we had opportunities to think more concretely about why each piece was needed and how we could better reflect the conversations we have with people seeking counseling and support.

Some of the information related to abortion is medical or otherwise quite technical, and translating it into language that is easy to understand has not always been easy. Although young people are one of our main audiences, we know that people of all ages and backgrounds may encounter these resources, so we have also had to find the right balance between accessibility and accuracy.

The designers working with us have been studying the content themselves so that they can fully understand and translate it into images. When they have not had direct experience with counseling or support work, we share specific situations and contexts with them as we develop the content. This process goes beyond simply drawing the images we need—we talk through real-life situations and discuss actual cases together, which has helped us create content that is more detailed, nuanced, and grounded in people’s experiences.

Before publishing the content, the GriSHARE Team sought feedback from medical professionals, youth support organizations, and people with lived experience. We’re now getting ready to share the content on our blog!

With the Korean government now announcing its plans to approve abortion pills, we hope these resources will become a valuable tool for people providing and seeking abortion support in the field.

Expert Review of the WikiHow Guides for Abortion Support
As we prepare to publish the WikiHow Guides for Abortion Support, we also invited experts and people with relevant experience to review the content.

Two OB-GYN specialists, an activist from a youth support organization who works directly with adolescents, and adolescents themselves read the articles in advance—including “How to Have a Medical Abortion” and “How to Support a Friend Who Is Having an Abortion.” They reviewed the content for medical accuracy and gave us feedback on whether the information would be clear and accessible to adolescents and those supporting them.

The OB-GYN specialists, activists, and adolescents who took part in the review welcomed the content with great enthusiasm. They shared helpful suggestions for making the information easier for people to understand, along with lots of encouragement and excitement for the project.

Creating WikiHow-Style Guides for Abortion Support

1. 20 WikiHow Guides for Abortion Support

This year, SHARE is creating a new series of “WikiHow-style” guides designed for people seeking or supporting abortion care. The project is currently being developed by three full-time SHARE activists and two graphic designers.

We are currently working on 20 pieces of content across two main topics, with 10 guides for each topic.

The one topic is “How to Medical Abortion”, and another one is “How to Support a Friend Who Is Having an Abortion” with a special focus on adolescents and young people.

We began this project because, although abortion is no longer criminalized in South Korea, safe abortion medication such as Mifepristone has still not been officially approved. In addition, people in socially and economically vulnerable situations — including adolescents, migrants, and refugees — continue to face serious barriers to accessing healthcare.

For adolescents in particular, many medical institutions still require parental consent or accompaniment, and it is often difficult to find safe and accurate information. As a result, adolescents continue to face significant obstacles when trying to access abortion care.

We hope these WikiHow-style guides will become practical, accessible resources for adolescents and others with limited access to healthcare, as well as for friends and community members who want to support them.

The guides on “How to Medical Abortion” include information on:

how to confirm a pregnancy,
checklists before an abortion,
how to obtain abortion medication,
how to take the medication safely,
symptoms and bodily changes after taking the medication,
recognizing emergency situations,
and post-abortion care.

The guides on “How to Support a Friend Who Is Having an Abortion” include practical advice for supporting adolescents in South Korea. Topics include:

conversations you can have with a friend considering abortion,
barriers that may arise when accompanying someone to a clinic and tips for navigating them,
ways to provide support during the abortion process,
how to respond to unexpected situations,
and emotional support and care tips.

We have already completed draft texts for all 20 guides and are now developing illustrations to make the information easier to understand and more accessible. In particular, information about medication abortion and abortion procedures will be presented using 3D visual materials to make the content more intuitive and easier to follow.

The guides will begin to be released one by one, starting in the second half of 2026.

Your support will help us provide high-quality, accessible, and practical information to adolescents, migrants, refugees, and other socially and economically vulnerable people in South Korea who continue to face barriers to safe abortion care.

2. SRHR 101 graphic info card and sign language video series

Building on the <Talk & Share> program created together with SHARE, we have been producing and distributing sign language video content and graphic information materials related to SRHR.

We have now completed and released the full sign language video series, and we continue to create and update new graphic information resources.

Most recently, we created a new graphic resource focused on menstrual health. This content encourages people to understand menstruation not simply as something connected to pregnancy or reproduction, but as a process closely linked to overall bodily health through hormonal changes and cycles.

The resource also includes information on:

premenstrual syndrome (PMS),
menstrual pain,
heavy menstrual bleeding,
irregular menstruation,
and amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).

SHARE’s SRHR101 content is distributed through a variety of channels, including the SHARE website, Instagram, X, Facebook, and mailing services, helping accessible and practical SRHR information reach a wider audience.

Onboarding a New Team Member

Onboarding a New Team Member and Launching 3D Visual Content Development

We have recently welcomed a new team member with professional experience in producing medical 3D visual content in collaboration with healthcare institutions. She also brings a strong interest in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), which aligns closely with the goals of this project.

Her participation is expected to enhance the accessibility and clarity of the "Wiki for Abortion Supporters" we are making. 3D visual content can effectively convey information that is often difficult to communicate through text or static images alone, including abortion procedures, medication abortion, and common post-abortion symptoms. And, based on her work with medical institutions, we expect she will better represent the images needed to understand various body organs and medical information.

We plan to produce 20 pieces of content, divided into basic and situational sections, to specifically address questions regarding the medical and surgical abortion processes for those undergoing abortion and their supporters.

All materials will initially be published on our blog. As the body of content grows, we plan to develop a dedicated platform to disseminate these resources in more structured and accessible formats.

Through this work, we aim to expand access to reliable, comprehensible information and better support informed decision-making around abortion care.

2. SRHR 101 graphic info card and sign language video series

Finally, we uploaded our last two sign language videos. Based on the <Talk & Share> program with SHARE, the Korean Deaf LGBT+ produced the last two sign language videos on "Termination of Pregnancy" and "Uterine Health''.

These materials are being disseminated widely through the social media channels, websites, and YouTube platforms of SHARE and the Korean Deaf LGBT+. SHARE plans to continue developing and publishing this content as an ongoing series of graphic-based informational resources, further expanding access to clear and inclusive information on this topic.
