Since our last update, the Community Development Foundation (CDF) has successfully scaled the "Cool Water Initiative" from a pilot phase into a cornerstone of school-based climate resilience in Jacobabad. Throughout the first quarter of 2026, we focused on institutionalizing the maintenance of our 10 climate-resilient mud containers. These units continue to provide a vital lifeline, delivering naturally cooled water to over 2,000 students daily. By integrating these systems into the daily school routine, we have moved beyond emergency relief into a model of sustainable public health that protects children during the increasingly early onset of the spring heat.

A poignant example of this impact is seen through the story of 10-year-old Ali, a student at one of our partner schools. Before the installation of the cooling containers, Ali often suffered from lethargy and headaches by midday, forcing him to miss several days of school each month due to dehydration. Today, Ali serves as a "Water Captain," helping his peers utilize the stations safely. His teachers report that Ali hasn’t missed a day of school this term, and his ability to concentrate has improved remarkably now that he has consistent access to cool, clean water. His story reflects a broader trend across all 10 sites, where anecdotal data shows a significant decrease in heat-related absenteeism.

Our operational focus this quarter remained on durability and community ownership. The traditional mud-based insulation has proven exceptionally effective as temperatures began to climb in March, maintaining water temperatures significantly lower than the ambient air without requiring electricity. School administrations have fully honored their commitment to the daily cleaning and refilling protocols, ensuring the project remains low-cost and high-impact. This period has solidified our "Small Investments, Lasting Impact" philosophy, demonstrating that climate adaptation doesn't always require complex technology—it requires community-led, sustainable solutions.

Looking ahead, the success of this quarter provides a clear blueprint for expansion. With the 2026 heatwave season approaching its peak, CDF is actively seeking to replicate this model in five additional high-risk schools and public transit points across Sindh. We remain deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors; your support has turned a $500 investment into a permanent shield for thousands of vulnerable children against the harsh climate of Jacobabad. We are committed to continuing this advocacy, ensuring that every student has the right to learn in a safe, hydrated, and climate-resilient environment.
