In our last update, our big announcement and point of focus was the Anaweza Camp planned for August. It is with a heavy heart that I write to share that after careful discussion the Anaweza team made the decision to cancel this year's Anaweza camp in Kenya.
This was not a decision we made lightly. As many of you have likely seen in the news, there is a serious Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda, both of which border Kenya.
Given these realities, we could not in good conscience ask our volunteers to take that risk of travelling with us in the middle of the outbreak. The health and safety of our team, of the children, and communities we serve, must come first.
Even with this disappointment, we are not letting our momentum slow. We are already looking forward to rescheduling our camp and fulfilling that goal for our scholars.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this mission so far, and we look forward to more positive updates in the future.
