Saving Lives in Yobe State: 27 Units of Blood, 27 Lives Saved – But the Need Continues

Thanks to the generous support from the GlobalGiving platform and our dedicated local partners, we successfully conducted a critical blood drive initiative in Yobe State. Despite operating with limited funds, the commitment of our community turned this project into a tangible success.

The Impact:

During our recent activities, we were able to collect 27 units of blood. In a region where blood shortages are life-threatening, this achievement means that we have directly contributed to saving 27 lives. Each unit represents a mother, a child, or a father who now has a second chance at life.

The Urgency:

However, the demand for blood in Yobe State far exceeds our current supply.

The need is particularly acute for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients, who require regular, safe transfusions to manage crises and survive. Without a consistent blood supply, these patients face constant danger.

Call to Action:

We have proven that we can save lives with the resources we have, but we cannot stop here. We urgently need further donations to continue this life-saving work. Your continued support will allow us to organize more drives, reach more donors, and ensure that every SCD patient in critical need has access to safe blood.

GlobalGiving: Sickle Cell Disease Eradication Initiative —Sponsor Blood Drive to Save lives in Yobe State Project Report

Overview

This initiative aims to support sickle cell disease (SCD) patients in Yobe State through awareness, blood donation drives, and direct medical support. While we did not receive funding from GlobalGiving for this activity, our team successfully organized local fundraising efforts to save lives. We will like to appreciate the contributions of our Donors in supporting this project with the following achievement.

Achievements and Support

Medical Support: We raised funds locally to support a 10-year-old SCD Vulnerable patient suffering from anemia and Fracture of the Legs. The funds enabled the patient to undergo a much-needed surgery for bilateral femur fractures and received blood transfusions, which were critical to their recovery.

Blood Drive Launch: Building on our success, we are planning to launch regular blood donation drives throughout Yobe State to ensure sustainable support for SCD patients requiring transfusions and other medical interventions.

Next Steps

Rolling out scheduled blood donation campaigns statewide.

Partnering with local health authorities and community groups to raise awareness.

Mobilizing additional international/local resources and volunteers to expand the impact.

Conclusion

Despite the lack of direct funding from GlobalGiving Platform, our local efforts demonstrate strong community support and commitment to eradicating SCD-related challenges in Yobe State through life-saving blood donations and medical support.
