Sickle Cell Disease Eradication Initiative (SICKDEI), with support from GlobalGiving and local partners, successfully conducted a life-saving blood drive initiative in Yobe State.
The project achieved a significant milestone: the collection of 48 pints of blood at the Yobe State Teaching Hospital and State Specialist Hospital, directly contributing to saving 48 lives in a region where blood shortages are a critical threat.
Despite operating with limited funds, the commitment of our community and healthcare partners turned this project into a tangible success. However, the demand—particularly from Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients requiring regular, safe transfusions—continues to vastly outpace supply. Each pint represents a mother, a child, or a father who now has a second chance at life, but the urgent need remains.
The Impact:
48 pints of blood collected = 48 lives saved

The Urgency:
The demand for blood in Yobe State far exceeds current supply. SCD patients face constant danger without a consistent, safe blood supply. We have proven we can save lives, but we cannot stop here.
