As we begin a new school year, we are excited to share the progress made possible through your generosity and to update you on the challenges ahead.

Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide essential books and stationery to our students at the start of the academic year. For many families, these supplies are difficult to afford or access. Your support ensured that every child returned to school prepared to learn, participate fully in class, and feel valued.

One of the most critical components of our school’s operations is the boat that transports children from neighbouring villages. We are pleased to report that we successfully replaced the boat’s engine. This investment means that children can continue to travel safely and reliably each day, regardless of the challenges posed by the terrain and long distances.

While we celebrate these wins, we must also share a pressing concern. Currently, we have only enough funds to pay our teachers for one more year. Our teachers are the heart of this school. They keep children engaged, supported, and motivated. Sustaining their salaries is essential to keeping the school open and ensuring continuity of learning.

Over the coming months, we will be focusing significantly on fundraising to secure multi-year support. We hope to raise enough to guarantee teacher salaries, expand learning resources, and strengthen the school’s long-term stability.

At our school, one special day felt a little like magic. As part of our mission to create a strong learning environment at Shining Light Beach School, we know that healthy children learn better. Thanks to your support, we hosted a free medical outreach for all our students and teachers! 

For many of our children, this was their first time seeing a doctor. Some were nervous at first but they quickly relaxed when they saw the friendly faces and caring hands. Everyone had their eyes, height and weight checked. A few students even got new glasses! Others received medicine for vitamin deficiencies, rashes, and minor infections.

Our teachers were not left out. They also had checkups and were so grateful. Healthy teachers mean happy classrooms.

Following on from the health check, we’d love to do even more. We want to hold regular health education sessions, not just for the students, but for their parents too. When families understand how to care for their health, the whole community grows stronger.
