SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

By KKONDE BADRU | ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) is committed to addressing youth unemployment and poverty in Uganda through the establishment of a Vocational Training Centre. The project aims to empower vulnerable women, single mothers, and youth with practical skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and digital literacy.

The initiative is designed to equip beneficiaries with the tools needed to achieve self-reliance and create sustainable livelihoods.

2. Financial Status Update

Total Project Goal:$29,964
Funds Raised to Date:$0
Remaining Balance:$29,964
Number of Donors: 0
Monthly Donors:0

At this stage, the project is still in its initial fundraising phase, and no financial contributions have been received yet. TICO is actively mobilizing resources and raising awareness to secure the necessary funding to launch implementation.

3. Current Progress

Despite the absence of funding, TICO has taken several preparatory steps to ensure readiness once funds are secured:

Conducted preliminary needs assessments in target communities
Identified potential beneficiaries, including vulnerable women and youth
Developed a training framework covering tailoring, hairdressing, cookery, bakery, ICT, and plumbing
Designed integrated modules for entrepreneurship and digital literacy
Initiated partnerships and consultations for UVTAB certification alignment

These efforts demonstrate TICO’s commitment and preparedness to implement the project effectively upon receiving funding.

4. Challenges

The primary challenge remains lack of initial funding, which has delayed:

Procurement of training materials and equipment
Setup of the Vocational Training Centre
Recruitment of trainers and facilitators
Enrollment and commencement of training for beneficiaries

Additionally, the urgency of the problem persists:
High youth unemployment rates
School dropouts due to poverty
Gender inequality limiting women's economic participation
Increased vulnerability to risky survival strategies

5. Next Steps

TICO is focused on accelerating fundraising efforts to kick-start the project. Immediate priorities include:

Strengthening outreach on GlobalGiving and other platforms
Engaging potential donors and partners
Launching awareness campaigns to highlight the urgency and impact of the project

Upon receiving funds, the organisation will:
Establish the Vocational Training Centre
Enroll the first cohort of 60 beneficiaries
Begin hands-on skills training and entrepreneurship education

6. Expected Impact

Once funded and implemented, the project is expected to:
Empower at least 60 vulnerable individuals in the first year
Enable 70% of graduates to start income-generating activities within 6 months
Promote financial independence among women and youth
Contribute to reducing poverty and unemployment in target communities

7. Appreciation & Call to Action

TICO appreciates the opportunity to present this initiative on GlobalGiving and remains optimistic about the support it will receive. Although no funds have been raised yet, the need for this intervention is urgent and critical.

We invite donors, partners, and supporters to join us in transforming lives by contributing to this project. Your support will directly empower vulnerable individuals to build sustainable futures.

Conclusion

While the project is still at the fundraising stage, TICO has laid a strong foundation for successful implementation. With adequate funding, this initiative has the potential to create lasting social and economic impact in Uganda.
