1. Project Overview

Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) is dedicated to reducing poverty and unemployment among vulnerable women and youth in Uganda through the establishment of a Vocational Training Centre. The project seeks to provide market-driven vocational skills, entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, and digital competencies that enable beneficiaries to become self-reliant and economically productive.

The Centre will offer practical training in tailoring and garment cutting, hairdressing and beauty therapy, cookery and bakery, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and plumbing. These technical skills will be complemented by entrepreneurship development, business management, and life skills to improve graduates' employability and capacity for self-employment.

This initiative is expected to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable women, single mothers, unemployed youth, and school dropouts while contributing to poverty reduction and community development.

3. Project Progress

Although fundraising is still in its early stages, considerable preparatory work has been completed to ensure immediate implementation once sufficient resources become available.

Achievements to date include:

• Conducted community needs assessments to identify priority vocational skills.
• Identified potential beneficiaries, with emphasis on vulnerable women, single mothers, unemployed youth, and school dropouts.
• Developed a comprehensive vocational training curriculum covering:
• Tailoring and Garment Cutting

These preparations position the project for efficient implementation immediately after the required funding is secured.

4. Challenges

The principal challenge continues to be limited financial resources, which have delayed project implementation.

The funding gap has affected the organisation's ability to:

• Procure vocational training equipment and learning materials.
• Renovate and equip the training facility.
• Recruit qualified vocational instructors.
• Enroll the first cohort of beneficiaries.
• Commence practical skills training.

Meanwhile, the demand for vocational skills development continues to increase due to:

• High youth unemployment.
• Persistent poverty among vulnerable households.
• Increasing school dropout rates.
• Limited employment opportunities for women and young people.
• Growing vulnerability to exploitative and unsafe livelihood options.

These challenges reinforce the urgency of implementing the project as soon as adequate funding becomes available.

5. Resource Mobilization Strategy

TICO continues to strengthen its fundraising and partnership efforts through:

• Promoting the project on GlobalGiving.
• Engaging philanthropic individuals and corporate partners.
• Submitting funding proposals to institutional donors.
• Expanding outreach through social media and community awareness campaigns.
• Building partnerships with vocational institutions and private-sector employers.

The organisation remains optimistic that sustained outreach and increased visibility will attract additional supporters and accelerate project implementation.

6. Planned Activities

Once the necessary funding is secured, TICO will immediately undertake the following activities:

• Renovate and establish the Vocational Training Centre.
• Purchase vocational equipment, tools, and training materials.
• Recruit qualified trainers and project staff.
• Enroll the first cohort of 60 beneficiaries.
• Deliver practical vocational and entrepreneurship training.
• Provide mentorship, business coaching, and financial literacy.
• Support graduates in accessing employment opportunities or establishing small businesses.

7. Expected Impact

Upon successful implementation, the project will:

• Train at least 60 vulnerable women and youth during the first year.
• Enable approximately 70% of graduates to secure employment or establish income-generating enterprises within six months.
• Improve household incomes and economic resilience.
• Promote women's empowerment and financial independence.
• Reduce unemployment and poverty in target communities.
• Strengthen local entrepreneurship and contribute to sustainable community development.
