Challenge

Uganda's youth face widespread unemployment and poverty. According to Uganda Bureau of Statistics (2021), 26% of Ugandans aged 10 and above are illiterate. Poverty forces school dropouts, leaving youth without employable skills. Cultural barriers like early marriage and gender discrimination further limit women's economic participation. This results in widespread dependency and engaging in risky survival strategies.

Solution

TICO establishes the Vocational Training Centre to empower 60 vulnerable people in the first year and more in the fourthcoming years, including youth, women and teenage mothers. We provide hands-on training in skills like Tailoring, ICT, and Plumbing. Uniquely, we are integrating Entrepreneurship skills and digital literacy in each course to ensure market relevance. Graduates receive national UVTAB certification, transforming them from dependent youth into skilled, self-reliant entrepreneurs.

Long-Term Impact

This project transforms 60 vulnerable youth and more into self-reliant entrepreneurs, breaking intergenerational poverty barriers. By equipping PWDs and women with marketable skills, we foster a community where they can generate income and support their families. We project that 70% of graduates will start income-generating activities within 6 months , driving local economic growth and sustainable livelihoods.
