We are proud to announce that we have being honored as part of this year’s SUSTAINIA100 for its project “Learning to Build Towards Disaster Resilience”. The study is available free of charge at www.sustainia.me.
SUSTAINIA100 honors 100 leading sustainability innovations from around the world and gives investors, business leaders, policy makers and consumers insights into promising solutions within their fields. This year, Sustainia’s research team and advisory board screened over 1,500 innovations, from which the final 100 were selected, including Build Change’s project, “Learning to Build Towards Disaster Resilience”:
“With the Network, Build Change set out to create a marketplace where informal construction workers and formal service providers connect and develop business relationships. The ground rules are simple: by delivering quality construction services, local informal construction workers (Network members) gain access to an array of products and exclusive services from Network partners, including national education bodies, material suppliers, insurance providers, microfinance organizations, and other private service providers. As the Network scales up members and partners reduce their family’s and community’s vulnerability to natural disaster.
The increased number of disaster-resistant buildings generated by the safer construction practices of Network members leads to a reduction of the number of deaths after an earthquake or typhoon, and significantly contributes to keeping the economy running after a disaster by safeguarding the workplaces of shopkeepers, basic service providers, and local governmental institutions.”
