It's easy to backslide - We connect builders in Port-au-Prince to incentives to keep building safe houses, despite pressure from untrained bosses still using unsafe methods. Membership in a professional network called REZO ("network" in Haitian Creole) will connect these builders to job placement, apprenticeships, continuing education, and lower prices for building materials. This project will fund 25 builders' memberships, combined with support from local businesses and the Haitian government.
We want 100% of the builders we work with in Haiti to have the support they need to properly and consistently apply their training to construct safe, earthquake-resistant homes. It is easy for builders to slip back into unsafe construction habits, due to pressure from untrained builders and work-site bosses.
Through this professional network for builders, REZO, we connect builders to incentives that will help them apply their training in earthquake-resistant design and construction, including job placement, apprenticeships, nationally-recognized certification, and refresher courses. We will sponsor 25 builders who have been trained in safer construction methods, and who passed their certification exam with highest marks.
This small investment will maximize the number of builders applying their recent training in earthquake-resistant design and construction to building safe homes in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
