GlobalGiving Quarterly Project Report (Storytelling Version)

Project Title: Sponsor a Child’s Education #70617

Implementing Organization: TAJPI Tanzania

Reporting Period: November–December 2025 & January 2026

A Child’s Reality Behind “Free Education”

In northern Tanzania, primary education is officially free. In reality, many children still stay home—not because they do not want to learn, but because their families cannot afford uniforms, meals, books, or exam fees. Hunger makes it impossible to concentrate. Long distances to school exhaust young learners. For children who have lost parental care, the burden is even heavier.

This is the reality TAJPI Tanzania continues to confront through the Sponsor a Child’s Education Project. Each sponsored child receives more than school supplies—they receive stability, encouragement, and the reassurance that someone believes in their future.

What We Accomplished This Quarter

Between November 2025 and January 2026, TAJPI focused on listening to communities and identifying children most at risk of dropping out of school. We conducted a preliminary community study at Dareda Primary School (Bashnet) and Orbesh Primary School in Babati Rural District, Manyara Region.

Through this process, 28 highly vulnerable children were identified and registered into the project. Many are being raised by elderly grandmothers after their mothers migrated to cities in search of work. With very limited resources available, these children were prioritized due to the severity of their living conditions.

Despite widespread poverty, community members showed solidarity. During the Christmas and New Year period, local volunteers—especially from church groups—donated notebooks, clothes, and shoes. While modest, these gestures had a powerful emotional impact on the children, reminding them they are not forgotten.

Continuing Support for Previously Identified Children

Alongside this work, TAJPI continued monitoring 21 children from Akko Primary School (Marera) and Rhotia Primary School in Rhotia Village, Karatu District, who were first supported in the previous quarter. All 21 returned to school in January 2026. However, their basic needs—uniforms, meals, and learning materials—remain largely unmet, placing their education at ongoing risk.

By the end of this quarter, the project was supporting 49 primary school children. Without sustained funding, many of these children face an uncertain future in school.

A Trusted Adult Makes a Difference

This quarter, TAJPI was strengthened by the support of Mrs. Elizabeth Bura (57), a widow and retired primary school teacher from Babati, who joined the project as a volunteer matron.

Mrs. Bura now:

  • Monitors children’s attendance and well-being
  • Provides after-school academic support
  • Engages families to encourage learning at home

Her presence has already improved children’s confidence, consistency in attendance, and motivation to learn. For many children, she is the only adult regularly checking on their progress.

Financial Overview

During this reporting period, no funds were received through GlobalGiving. However, USD 490 (approx. TZS 1,225,000) was raised through local, in-kind community contributions. These resources enabled TAJPI to maintain engagement with children and prepare for broader implementation once funding becomes available.

What Comes Next

From March to May 2026, TAJPI plans to:

  • Provide essential learning materials to all 49 children
  • Continue close monitoring through the volunteer matron
  • Deepen collaboration with schools and local leaders to strengthen awareness of children’s right to education

A Message to Our Donors

Every child supported through this project represents a future preserved. Your generosity does more than pay for school supplies—it restores hope, protects dignity, and keeps a child learning when everything else pushes them to give up.

Thank you for walking with us. Together, we are changing lives—one child, one school day, one future at a time.
