GLOBALGIVING QUARTERLY PROJECT REPORT

Project Title: Sponsor a Child’s Education (#70617)

Implementing Organization: TAJPI Tanzania

Reporting Period: March – June 2026

A Child's Future Depends on Opportunity

In many rural communities of northern Tanzania, education remains a distant dream for children living in poverty. Although schooling is officially free, the hidden costs of education, including uniforms, learning materials, meals, and transportation, continue to prevent many children from fully participating in school. For children living with elderly caregivers or in vulnerable households, these barriers are even greater.

During this reporting period, TAJPI Tanzania continued its commitment to supporting vulnerable children through the Sponsor a Child's Education Project. Our staff conducted regular follow-up visits to children enrolled in the program, including newly registered beneficiaries and their caregivers. These visits focused on monitoring educational progress, social well-being, health conditions, and family circumstances.

Among the children receiving support and close follow-up are John, Benson, and Brenda, whose stories reflect the realities faced by many vulnerable children in our communities. Through regular engagement with their caregivers and schools, we have continued to encourage school attendance, strengthen emotional support systems, and identify areas where additional assistance is needed.

This quarter, we continued supporting and monitoring 28 children previously identified through community assessments in Babati Rural District, Manyara Region. Many of these children are being raised by elderly grandmothers after their mothers migrated to urban areas in search of economic opportunities. Despite the challenges faced by these families, community members, faith groups, and local volunteers demonstrated remarkable solidarity by donating notebooks, clothing, shoes, and other basic necessities for the children.

TAJPI also continued monitoring 21 children identified earlier from Akko Primary School in Marera and Rhotia Primary School in Karatu District. While all 21 children remain enrolled in school, many still lack adequate learning materials and other essential educational resources. Continued support remains critical to ensuring that these children stay in school and achieve their full potential.

As of June 2026, the project is actively monitoring and supporting a total of 49 vulnerable primary school children. While progress has been encouraging, financial constraints continue to place many of these children at risk of absenteeism and eventual school dropout.

Promoting Environmental Stewardship and Child Rights

In preparation for the 2026 Day of the African Child, TAJPI integrated environmental education into its child support activities. Children, caregivers, and community members participated in awareness sessions on environmental conservation, stewardship, and sustainable practices.

Special attention was given to the 2026 Day of the African Child theme:

"Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."

Through discussions and educational activities, children learned about the importance of clean water, sanitation, personal hygiene, and environmental protection. These lessons not only support children's health and well-being but also encourage them to become responsible stewards of their environment and active participants in community development.

Key Achievements

• Continued monitoring and mentorship of 49 vulnerable children.

• Conducted regular home and school visits to assess educational, social, and health development.

• Strengthened caregiver engagement and support systems.

• Mobilized community donations of clothing, notebooks, shoes, and other essential items.

• Promoted environmental conservation and stewardship among children and caregivers.

• Raised awareness on the Day of the African Child 2026 theme focusing on water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Challenges

Despite positive community engagement, many children continue to face significant barriers, including poverty, inadequate school supplies, food insecurity, and limited caregiver resources. Funding constraints remain the project's greatest challenge, limiting our ability to provide comprehensive educational support to all identified children.

Looking Ahead

During the next quarter, TAJPI plans to:

• Continue monitoring the educational and social progress of all 49 children.
• Expand fundraising efforts to provide school supplies, uniforms, and learning materials.
• Strengthen community awareness on children's rights and the importance of education.
• Continue integrating environmental stewardship and climate awareness into child development activities.
• Identify additional vulnerable children requiring educational support.

Thank You

TAJPI extends heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving supporters, local donors, volunteers, caregivers, teachers, and community leaders who continue to stand with vulnerable children. Your generosity helps keep children in school, restores hope, and creates opportunities for brighter futures.

Together, we are transforming lives through education, one child at a time.
