According to research, only 26% of Guatemalan young people receive a high school education. The reality for most Guatemalan youth is that they do not have the chance to graduate with a high school diploma. The barriers are numerous and complex. It is a country with high levels of poverty, in some regions up to 70% of the population live in poverty. There are high rates of teenage pregnancies and migration. Many students drop out of school because their families need them to work.
CasaSito has striven to eliminate obstacles that hinder young people's academic journeys, while supporting their emotional development through practical methods. We provide life coaching, psychology sessions, restorative circles, extracurricular activities, positive parental workshops, youth workshops, mentorship, and regular home and school visits.
CasaSito has a high success rate in supporting young people to reach their personal, academic and professional goals. Twenty Guatemalan young people will graduate from high school and then have the opportunity to pursue a university qualification either independently or through CasaSito's university scholarship program. Students develop new skills such as public speaking and interpersonal skills. Parents are taught positive parenting styles that can impact the whole family's wellbeing.
