Challenge

Guatemala's education system faces persistent challenges: an outdated national curriculum, bureaucratic hurdles, limited financial resources, and low teacher pay. These factors hinder quality learning, classroom climate, and student well-being. Teachers often lack support for emotional health and professional growth, limiting their ability to be empathetic and help create safe, respectful, positive learning environments, and support the development of critical thinking skills in their students.

Solution

This project enhances educational quality in Sacatepequez by strengthening teachers' professional and personal skills. The training combines debate techniques with psychosocial support, equipping teachers to create empathetic, innovative classrooms that promote critical thinking. By valuing students' voices and creating supportive learning environments, teachers help reduce bullying while guiding students to express themselves confidently, think critically, and resolve conflicts peacefully.

Long-Term Impact

The program strengthens educational quality by training teachers in debate techniques while supporting their personal development. Teachers apply these skills not only in the classroom but also in their interactions with parents and within their own families.Through debate clubs, students develop critical thinking, argumentation, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, contributing to a culture of dialogue and peace within their school as well as their futures.
